README-Jurassic for Unreal version 224 Jurassic:An adventure that seemed to be 65 million years in the making. Known bugs/other issues 1. The intro is very reliant on triggers which means if you do anything like look at menu's or anything other than just watching it will make triggers activate at the wrong time. Meaning music, models animations and sound that were meant to happen at a certain point happen elsewhere. It's all based on timing. 2. Occasionally Hitlers speech plays twice sometimes. I was actually meaning to make that sample a part of the music and the pan shifting that you experience when the camera moves fast would have been eliminated as would the sample playing twice. 3. Also the "levels" of the music are very low. I was going to convert it to tracker format but didn't get around to it. It is pretty much one big wav file. Speaking of which, the music is approx 3 years old. To get correct levels for music and sounds you must set your music two "steps" to the left of the maximum setting and your music one step lower than your sound effects. 4. The demon in the intro is meant to appear, play the deceiving animation once and then dissappear (just before the screen goes red). Hitler is meant to be playing animations during the speech as are the soldiers but this requires code. 5. The "specialc" animation of the trex was meant for the player models. I decided not to do these (was going to use the actual Unreal player models but this would have required getting permission to do so) and decided not to refine the animations that desperately needed it. Time to move on. 6. Models were imported at a small scale (because of the way the linked animations work) and suffer from a slight wobbling. This is because 3ds2unr truncates vertices to the nearest eighth coordinate on the x/y axis and to the nearest quarter coordinate on the z axis (I think). What you are seeing are vertices interpolating between truncated positions. 7. Any mod authors out there wishing to use these models can do so if they wish. You will have to write your own code and produce your own sounds for them. Just place a mention of me and my site somewhere in your credits and away you go. Installation Extract all files into the Unreal directory. It will place the nessasary files in thier respective directories for you to look at. Next open your unreal.ini, which is located in the system directory of Unreal and search for [Editor.EditorEngine]. Page down till you see a bunch of lines labelled EditPackages. Next add this... EditPackages=Jurassic to the bottom of that list. It also places these files in your Unreal directory... History.txt is a history of how this TC was created and some general hints for you budding TC groups. Uninstall.bat is a rude and crude batch file that removes all Jurassic related material when you are sick of it (like I am :) If you installed correctly to start with then this will work. I have also included the file that Luke Wenke wrote for multiple cylinder hit detection. It was written when Unreal version 220 was current and I dont think it works in 224. You will have to revert back to 220 to view his work (it's worth it). The files statesraptor.doc and statestrex.doc were written as an aid to our coder to show which animations tie in with what. It's mainly for programmers who wish to write code for these things. The Story During World War 2 Hitler was planning to take over the world using any means possible. One of his dreams - to rid the human race of the "defective", thereby producing the master race. Now, over 50 years on, you see that todays scientists are aiming for essentially the same dream that Hitler had... to produce a master race. Although this time our scientists are using genetics to perfect human dna. Is there a link between the two? Is it just a coincidence that one of todays leaders said that we need to bring about a new world order and yet Hitler called his reign the "new order"? Previously you studied the events of the war and have started to see a pattern between todays events and how they are strangly similar to the plans of the past. As todays scientists move towards cloning dinosaurs, it will only be a short step before they move on to humans. You are to investigate suspected laboratories to see if these experiments have taken place. If you find evidence of genetic research whether it be equipment or specimen - destroy it at all costs. Keep an eye on the web page, there are some forthcoming tutorials as well as an Unreal Tournement player model. Astro. retro@iinet.net.au http://jurassic.mpog.com
