The problem is a bit more complicated than this.
What you need is an entity that spawns another entity (the zombie), and keep checking if it stills alive. If is dead, then spawn another one, and repeat.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC
