In regular Quake the pallete goes on pallete.lmp, does this file exists in Daikatana ?
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)

I said in my first post that the palette and colormap are being stored in the init.wad
They're not stored anywhere else.

The DK alpha BSPs have 2 extra lumps compared to Q1 BSP for a map palette and colormap (i.e. they expanded HEADER_LUMPS to 17 and now have LUMP_PALETTE 15 and LUMP_COLORMAP 16 in their code probably).
