![]() The setting for this adventure appears to be an enemy encampment built into the side of a large mountain. On the face of the mountains are a series of platforms or levels, brimming with strogg guards and their assorted deadly friends. Once inside the mountain itself, the setting really takes the form of a darkened, dimly lit grotto with passages and ramps leading every which way. This rough hewn stone look was a nice change from the more techno military feel of the majority of Quake II levels to date. Challenging combat situations are in abundance while ammo and weapons seem to be just barely enough to get the job done. I found myself at the end of this level with just the trusty blaster and a few grenades. Creative use of cover was the only reason I made it through to the end. The darkness also works against you. Racing headlong down a dimly lit passageway I practically bowled over a strogg guard. More than once I used the blaster as a light source to get my bearings. This is one level you will want to play in a dimly lit room! For those of you who shy away from dimly lit levels, don't! This one works. "Levalance5"
is a worthy additon to add to your collection of Quake II maps. Now we
just need "Levelance6, 7, 8, and 9...".
