"This
mission places you aboard a Strogg cargo ship which is being used by the
Strogg warlord "Bor" to ship munitions out to his stronghold. Intelligence
reports suggest that Bor himself is along for the ride this shipment, and
your mission is to kill him off and to prevent his cargo from reaching
its destination. As usual, you'll be hopelessly out-gunned and they're
sending you in with just a blaster. ;-) Tough break. It's a
good thing Stroggs leave weapons and health lying around.
Good
luck, marine.~Carson Utz
The
word on this level was that it was practically the best Quake2 user created
level yet. Mighty big reputation don't you think? So I downloaded this
map as a skeptic and finished it as a convert. Carson has created a masterpiece.
There
is so much that is great I hardly know where to start. First of all this
level does not look like any other you have seen before. Most of the floors
have a clear or colored bottom enabling you to see out into space
or below. There are rows of colored lights everywhere. Best put that blast
shield down so they don't distract ya. This level may be the most visually
attractive I have ever seen, it's stunning. And it is also huge.. as in..
gargantuan. This thing just keeps on going, not that you will want it to
end anytime soon though.
Let's
see. Did I mention the fiendish traps? Nothing like hearing those Strogg
and not finding them, only to have the walls slide away and be bushwhacked
from behind! The creative use of the cargo system is a brilliant touch
as well enabling you to get past what was once an unpassible area. Once
you play it you will see what I mean. It's this kind of attention to detail
and gameplay that really distinguishes this level. For me it was the high
point of the level. Just brilliant.
The
opposition here is challenging without being frustrating. Having to replay
a certain area is not a problem, it gives you a second chance to gawk at
the scenery. Health and ammo are in good supply as well. Finding and getting
to them is also a lot of fun.
I could
go on for another page or two but you get the idea. Carson Utz also known
as Riscchip has just raised the stakes for user created Quake2 levels,
and they are a mighty long way up. |
Strogg
on guard. I feel sorry for the next chap through that door down below.
Amazing
build. Each area has a very clean and futuristic look to it.
Strogg guards
in perfect position again. Nothing quite like walking through a door and
having a group of these guys open up on you from above.

Architecture,
lighting, gameplay, size, placement of foes, storyline, did I leave anything
out? |
 |
I was half
expecting to be whisked off in the stolen ship for the end cut scene, just
a niggle but a thought. |

A Masterpiece.
A must download! |
