ManGoBoom's Log: 3:00 a.m.
Late night guard duty again.... The captain just wired over orders for me to
guard the stairs leading up from the sewer, it seems that there had been reports
of the enemy somehow making it into the base undetected. His last words were
"Shoot anything that that comes out of that stairwell friend or foe, and
don't leave your post!"
So here I am waiting, looking, listening for a friend to poke his head out of
the stairwell so I can give them a blast from the trusty double barrel right
in the teeth. God I felt bad about the new guy for a minute but the Captain
told everyone to identify himself. I guess a concussion grenade could have hit
him and had him confused. God I hope so, then he wouldn't of known it was me
who just gave him that hefty dental bill making him discharge his weapon into
the wall at pointblank range scattering his insides all over the floor.
That's the hard part of dealing with war, you always see your friends die and
it seems like they always find a replacement that looks just like your buddy,
as if to remind you of all the friends you lost along the way.
3:10 a.m.
I heard on the com about the guys over at Well6 getting slaughtered by some
"unknown" enemy. Makes me wonder if we will run across any of them
here at Fort5, but then again our defense is the toughest around, but even so...
we cant afford to let even one of those bastards in here.
3:15 a.m.
A pitched battle breaks out at the front entrance; an enemy demolitions man
must of set a detpack full of TNT just around the corner from me, the force
of the blast is making me see colors. Everyone is right around the corner I
can hear the chaos breaking loose. I want to join in and lend a hand but something
is strange, yet beautiful. Everything seems to be happening all at once, the
battle sounds so close but I can't find it. All I can do is wade through the
syrup that somebody poured all over the floor, my boots seem to be sticking
to it, I can hardly move.
Then through the haze I see a head pop up from the stairwell, but I cant make
out the colors, all I can do is to fire and hope that he isn't my best friend.
I squeeze the trigger on the rocketlauncer, the action seems a bit sluggish,
but the rocket flew perfect and impacted the wall just above the targets head
sending shrapnel down into his neck and shoulders. Even with blast armor, that
really hurts. I squeeze the trigger again but nothing happens, I try again but
still nothing, I check the magazine and still 3 left. What the hell is wrong
with this piece of crap!
Just then I feel a sting in my left shoulder as I look up I see that the target
is this funny looking fella in a suit. For some reason he's not slowed down
by the sticky floor, as a matter of fact he can run pretty dam quick across
that sticky floor! Damn if this gun wasn't jammed I wo...KABOOM! What the hell,
it wasn't working a minute ago! I nearly blew my feet off!
Just then I feel a sharp stabbing pain in my lower back, immediately followed
by another, the pain is unbearable and my gun is still jammed, I call for a
medic and pray he gets here before the guy in the suit strikes again sending
me to an early death. I decide to flee and look for help.
As I stagger into the ramp room I notice that the floors aren't so sticky in
here. I scan the area looking for the enemy but all I see are the gibs scattered
about the room that has seen action recently, why didn't I hear anything, why
didn't they call for help, where are they all at, and where is the guy in the
suit?
I make it to the resupply room in one piece and manage to patch myself up, report
in that I'm out of position and that a strange enemy is somewhere in the base,
but all I get is static on the com. Maybe my radio got knocked out by the detpack.
I hope.
I head back out into the ramp room to see what's up and get back into position
before the captain catches me, when I see our medic coming up the ramps, (where
was he when I needed him!) I move back to let him up the ramp and he runs right
by me and into the hallway leading into the resupply room, he must have been
hurt bad cause he didn't even say hi.
Just then I realize that I didn't hear the resupply room door open, so I double
back to check and see if he is all right or if he just forgot his key again.
Its then that all becomes clear to me. As I round the corner I see the medic
swing his axe at me and instead of healing me it painfully opens a big gash
in my side, strangely then his true identity is unveiled as the guy in the suit!
This must be what happened to the saps over at Well6. The guys in the suits
made there way in by posing as friendly medics only to poor syrup all over the
floor and stab the friendlies in the back when they couldn't get away, dismembering
the corpses and posing the severed limbs and heads in sick and twisted ways.
I backpedal as fast as I can but with my full backpack and armor I cant move
as fast as the back-stabber. He closes the gap fast and for some reason my gun
is misfiring again, (I wish that the supply guy wouldn't buy these slightly
used discount rocket launchers from Id. The new model from Valve is supposed
to be more reliable, but it's not due out for another few months.) Right when
he is ready to make the final plunge into my belly with his 8-inch blackened
steel blood gutter I see that another of his friends posing as a medic is coming
up from behind him to enjoy in my dismemberment. (God that's all I need is to
have my gut's hung out in front of strangers.) Its then that the new guy pulls
out a hefty looking nail gun, sticks it in the back of his friend and proceeds
to unload, I was going to enjoy seeing that bastard turn inside out, but I slipped
out of awareness and into a sea of black....
3:42 a.m.
When I came to, the medic is standing above me, he's doing something to me but
everything is still blurry so I cant tell just what. As things rapidly clear
up I see that it is actually the Captain hitting me with his axe, he's not dead
after all, as a matter of fact he's alive and quite pissed that I was up here
sleeping on the job and not standing my post!
3:44 a.m.
Well looks like I have been bumped down to engineer as punishment for leaving
my post. I guess he's trying to teach me a lesson or something, he didn't even
care to hear about the funny looking guys in the suits or the fact that my guts
were almost made into wall paintings! Figures I'm stuck here picking up backpacks
while the rest of the guys get to go and have all the fun!
I'm just glad that he didn't make me clean up all that syrup that's all over
the lobby's floor!
ManGoBoom out!
