Happy Father's day[CPF]Saxon

Yes, Happy Father's day to all of you old fossils out there. One of my favorite fathers has brought his site back online. It is good to see you back in Business, Ambush. Head on over and check it out here. Ambush is the creator of the TF mod, Mega TF. His wife Dyermaker has been one of the premier map makers in the community since the early days of TF. Recently she created a new one for TFC called Baghdad!, get your copy here and jump into the fray. This map has recently placed sixth in a PC Gamer "Hunted" conversion map contest. Ok so it`s been awhile since anyone from "Cisco`s Place" has put to print any words of wisdom, (call it what you want). See what we were doing was waiting for Sheepman to update.....but I`m afraid that we would all be worm food before that would happen so I decided to tackle some issues!

With the tragic escapade of the two young men in Colorado comes placement of blame by the media. Who`s to blame? Oh it must be because they played Doom!! Listened to evil music and watched violent movies!! Here's a quote from our local newspaper "He was more than just a player he made his own maps so he and his friends could fight it out " OH COME ON!!

Anyway I read This over at Brimstone, and thought it was well worth mentioning. I`m afraid I agree with Sentinel, things will be changing. How soon and to what extent who knows but if I were you I`d keep my eyes open and be prepared to voice your opinion vote wise!

Saxon, Sheepman and myself managed to get our isp to let us place a TFC server in their offices. Well after a crash course of Windows NT we placed it a few weeks ago and its been fraging it up with great pings..LOL

It was then that my buddy Davester turned me onto these little gems. So now everyday (IT COULD HAPPEN!) There will be a new "I cant believe they said that!" right below boner. I know this has nothing to do with gaming let alone TF but hey, they make me laugh!

TF2 To Be Released Today!!!![CPF]Saxon

I just can't believe it, but it must be true as the source of this information has always been so trustworthy. Here is what I found over at the UK Fortress Newsdesk after doing a little looking around this morning. Thanks to Billings of CFTF for the heads up on this one.

TF2 RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED [Horus @ 09:21:46 GMT] Let's get straight to it: Kirkland, WA. - Thursday April 1 1999, slightly after lunch: Valve L.L.C. and Sierra Studios today announced the imminent availability of their next title, Team Fortress Two. Based on the award-winning Half Life engine, the game combines the advanced visuals and flexibility of Valve Software's first title, Half Life, with the well-honed multiplayer aspects of the most popular Quake mod ever, Team Fortress. Significant streamlinings have been made in the engine's networking code since Half Life: "We've come up with a number of techniques for para-encoding the multiplayer flux datastream, through the cyclical ion-spinner, that significantly improve overall high-band latency calculation time on lower speed connections," spouted John Bernie, senior development engineer at Valve. "Most cyberspatial combat participants will see a dramatic escalation in the performance curve of the smoothness of their reticular gameplay." I was reading over at the Ambush Compound that there was some mischief afoot while they were there for the play testing:

"Speaking of punks... It seems that the same weekend that I was invited to Valve to playtest TFC that something came up missing from their offices. I have no idea what... but it has screwed up people's chances of being invited there in the future for playtesting. You just don't slap the face of your hero."

I can`t agree more! Valve has been nice enough to open its doors and let some folks in. I doubt that it`ll ever happen again, and I can`t blame them!

That's right, those irreverent boys in blue have a new domain of their own. Deadpool2 has built them a new look from scratch and they are now located here. Celeron overclocking, is it for you?[CPF]Saxon

I found some good information on overclocking the Intel Celeron chip over at Cnet's Gamecenter this weekend. Like many of you, I have need of a faster system and I don't want to invest a fortune in it. Bundy got me interested in this idea with a recent post of his and I have been investigating the possibilites. Have a look at this guide to Celeron speed manipulation. I found it very informative. Where's Mango? [CPF]ManGoBoom

"Attention, Attention Niels is dead!" But ManGo aint!!! Im back from the remodel from hell and all is well...I also see that I wasn't the only one to take a Leave Of Absence. Looks like No-Kami is the subdued personality and the Sentinel is back from the dead and ready to stir up some sh*t in everyone's soup once again, "Thank you sir may I have another?!?" Oh.. one more thing

I bought Tribes, Downloaded the new gamespy, logged onto a server, played for awhile and thought it was a waste of my time and money, then I tried it a week later and really gave it a chance this time. I played and played, used all the weapons and got the hang of the jetpack and the different types of hovering golf carts they call vehicles.. and in my humble opinion this game rates a big *yawn* it did little to excite me in the least little bit. The net play was good, but not as good as everyone said it was (quakeworld is still the best) and the maps are... well lets just say I didn't care all that much for them. The good news... TF is still free and a much better game.. at least in my opinion.

Megadeth to do Duke Nukem theme song [CPF]Saxon

Over at 3d Realms today I noticed that The heavy metal band Megadeth will be doing the Duke Nukem Forever Theme song. Between Doom and Quake I played a lot of DN3D over the modem. I always loved the theme song and I can't think of a better band to pull it off with some real attitude, go check it out here. I hope they get a chance to release an MP3 of it real soon.

I received a couple of e-mails from some more Old Fossils! It appears that Scatterblak remembers well back into the 70`s and has fessed up to being an Old Fossil. I`ll be adding him to the page asap! And we also got a note from Mr. Shotgun, it appears he too qualifies for geezerness coming in at a ripe 45ish! He to will join the ever growing ranks of older TF players, ya know, the ones who can afford to squander extra cash to achieve lower pings and more FPS with all the latest hardware available!!

DyerMaker and the defunct Concave Brush [CPF]-Cisco-

I know this is not "new" news but I was disappointed when I had read that DyerMaker had chose to discontinue her latest venture into RA, "The Concave Brush". I had become a huge fan of her show "Blueprints Mint" and the work she had produced such as Unholy Kingdoms for example! Anyway I feel that her presence in the TF community was important and productive to all of us, her work will be missed!

I`m almost done with the addition to my house! Saxon is back from vacations and schooling...( Lord help any teacher who misspelled anything or used improper grammar, Sax can be so unforgiving!) :-) ...And Mango has been working on a home as well, which he should be completing soon. He made reference to "down to the painting" wonder if that was a hint for help!

Although Intel won't officially release the Pentium III until 
February 28, a number of resellers are already offering the chip 
and systems built around the chip to customers.

These pre-opening sales come because Intel has already shipped 
the processor to distributors and chip brokers. In turn, these 
companies have turned them over to resellers. The debut of the Pentium 
III will also coincide with price cuts across the Pentium II line. 

A 500-MHz Pentium III costs in retail anywhere from $823 to $899, 
and will likely drop when the official release occurs. Intel's current 
wholesale price for the processor is $790 for quantities of 1,000, but 
it will drop to $764 by the time of the release. 

Computer resellers who have tested the chip say it comes close to 
Intel's more expensive Xeon processors for servers and workstations 
and even outperforms it in some respects. The Xeon performs approximately 
10 percent better on benchmark tests for accessing data from main memory, 
according to Roland Baker, president of Net Express, a Silicon Valley
reseller and workstation manufacturer.

Its been days since we have heard from Sheepman and his goodwill mission. Sometime last night in the morning hours, we managed to have a short radio exchange with the Cow leader:

CowLeader: WE KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO THOSE COWS! WE HAVE PROOF! besides they weren't even with us. They were unenlightened bovines. Plus, your 2 legged friends are coming to us in droves, forsaking their evil 2 leg existence and undergoing conversion to participate in cowdom!

ManGoBoom: Where is Ambassador Sheepman?!?

CowLeader: we know not of this sheep-man..


After that radio contact with the Cows was lost.. or cut off. We can only take this as a hostile act, and assume that our beloved Sheepman has come to an uncertain end. Therefore we have locked down Ciscos place and put into effect Martial Law effective immediately.

We have received word that Ambassador Sheepman has reached the primary line of defenses at CowTF. We will not be able to contact Sheep from now on, we will only know if our gesture of goodwill has any effect until we here from Sheepman again or from the Cow forces themselves. Cisco has been intercepting some interesting messages coming from some of the fallen sites but they all seem to be Cow propaganda. We can only hope that our mission of goodwill will succeed, after all we have all this beer just sitting here waiting for a party.

We here at Ciscos have decided that peace must continue, so we are sending Ambassador Sheepman to CowTF for peace talks in hopes that he can convince the cow leader to come to our little party. We can only hope that Ambassador Sheepman's mission will succeed. But just in case we do have some insurance (look at top of page) . As you can see he is fine, you have nothing to worry about.. As long as no harm comes to our beloved Sheepman.

Twice refused, Attacks, and the main course [CPF]ManGoBoom

No that isint the title of an "Love American style" episode. CowTF have again refused our offer, and in the same breath attempted a failed invasion at CFTF. (Why I remember Hitler doing the same sort of underhanded thing, its a good thing that us geezers are still around to see what's going on.) Well, we now know that diplomacy will never work, but our BBQ will go on as planed, it seems that two cows have came to our party despite what their leaders said. I know this because The Hal over at PlanetFortress got them to talk..umm I mean, got to talking with them before they prodded them into the truck and drove them over here... errr I mean, were nice enough to give them a ride. So the BBQ will go on as planned.

If you plan on coming to the BBQ, please bring some beef and/or pork.. Since our plan for a free BBQ didn't quite work out the way we wanted more than just a side dish is now required. Sheep for beef.. [CPF]ManGoBoom

Well it seems that our guest of honor, Cow Fortress has declined our invitation saying "we can not be sure that you're invitation is genuine" We here at Ciscos want to no more than just a nice get together. We would love to attend the event held at the Cow Fortress headquarters but your building isn't handicap accessible, and our life support systems aren't mobile. So as a gesture of good faith we offer a trade of sorts. We will send you our very own four legged Sheepman as a token of your safety, being assured that no harm will come of him, he is after all our most valuable asset here at Ciscos with all his contributions he makes to the site and all. This should prove to you that we wouldn't want to cause you any harm, after all we are very old and forgot where our teeth were long ago.

So come on over, we rarely get the chance to go out let alone dine on…umm, with heads of state. Make no T-bones about it, all we want is a nice little party and a chance to chew the fat with the rest of the community. After all if you guys don't come it wont be dinner… umm, I mean... a party. Top Ten outrageous/silly rumors to start about TF2. [CPF]ManGoBoom

With a little creative help from Vorro I put this together, I hope it brings some humor to these tense times...

10. TF2 will now be an add-on for the SOUTHPARK game engine, and every class will look like Cartman.
