It has been a long night. After the big battle earlier, it got quiet. Very quiet. Too quiet.
Oh, hi rank. How is it going? You getting cold too? Hey, help yourself to some coffee and a sandwich :) Anything going on? When the IR perimeter sensors went off earlier, I was sure that The Sentinel was coming through. All we need is a sapper attack now, know what I mean? At least you can hear those darn sentry guns of Moriarty's. Rank just chews quietly on the sandwich and drinks his coffee.
As he gets up to leave, I ask him if he is alright. He is acting like he is tired or something. He is normally more talkative than this. Maybe he is just tired. He just nods and walks slowly toward the Fortress.
Hmm... Wait a minute! TOWARD the Fortress! Just as I sound the alarms, Ranksmellin' comes into the hide . Or is it Rank? I shoot him in the leg to keep him there just in case... Wait. If THIS is Rank, then....
I break out the PRC-90 and try to raise Golbez. No joy. Must be the residuals from all those EMP grenades earlier. I had no idea they would affect comms this bad. Must be the crappy location we are in. All I get is a - hiss - and an occasional - crackle - for all the good it does me, I could use two cans and a string.
I pop a few red flares to let them know inside that the lines have been breached.
Well, we have been infiltrated. The Sentinel is inside now. I can't go in and help because there is no telling how many are in his wake. We are spread way too thin after last night's assault. It was close. Too close. If they had been able to sustain it for a couple of more minutes, it would have been all over. Good thing reinforcements are coming in the morning.
Gotta give it to The Sent, though. HAH! He sat right here with me and drank my coffee and ate my last peanut butter sandwich. WHAT! My LAST peanut butter sandwich?
Old friend, now it is personal.... Be afraid. Be very afraid.
