The Concussion

by Bundy

Man, I'm getting tired of having four Scouts keeping us under seige with those darned concussion grenades. How about you, Hal? Look out! Here comes another one!

*Ka-WHUMP!*

Bundy staggers around a bit before falling off the sniper deck. He hits hard. Real hard...

Whoa... that was a bad fall. My head is really spinning from that last conc. I think I may have broken something this time. Wait, what is this? BDU's? Real BDU's? Nice camo pattern, too. My pack is different, too. It is a real ALICE pack with loadbearing web gear. This can't be right. Where am I?

Bundy looks around. Things look quite different, but are still familiar. His fort is much larger than it was before but he still knows he can find his way around. His Remington 700 is still the same, but when he looks through his Leupold 3 1/2 x 10 mil-dot Tactical scope, he sees something else. There is a HUD with a lot more information. As he starts to get his bearings, he hears radio transmissions...

"Bundy this is Warfighter, over"

"Bundy, are you alright? Answer me!"

Uhh... that must be me. "Warfighter, this is Bundy, over"

"Bundy, be advised, bad guys are flanking the exit to their fort. Take a squad and get rid of them. How copy, over?"

"Roger copy, Warfighter"

Bundy looks around and gathers up his gear. Sixgun Surgeon, Skraut and Kinlord come into the room. "We heard the Commander, Bundy. We don't have enough for a full squad. This'll have to do."

Bundy sits down and pulls out a map. Ok, guys, you heard the man. We'll go around the rocks and set up a field of fire here (pointing at the map). Kinlord, see if you can get a Claymore over here behind them and we'll drive them into your blast zone. A few pipes wouldn't hurt, either. Sixgun, cover Kinlord and be availble for first aid for the team. Skraut, setup your M240G and push them into the claymore. I'll find a hide on the rocks so the Commander can see what's going on and pick off their squad leader. Any question?

Bundy wonders why he feels like he has been here before. Strange...

Everyone checks their gear one last time. Then they check their buddy's gear to make sure nothing has been forgotten.

Ok, guys. Let's do it. We have a team coming out of their fort with the goodies and we have to make sure they make it out. Another squad will cover them once they clear the area. Switch tactical now.

Everyone switches to the tactical frequency and heads up the ramp. Once they clear the ramp the sound of weapons being put into battery is heard. Almost immediately afterward the safeties are engaged.

Bundy breaks out a peanut butter sando from his cargo pocket. He fumbles around and finds a carton of sterilized milk in his rucksack. Hmmm... Life is good...

As they get farther from the fort, they can hear the sound of distant gunfire and explosions, large and small. Occasionally they can hear screaming and other sounds of battle. Suddenly a voice comes over squadron tactical: "Hold it there, boys. The folks from the Welcome Wagon are coming to meet you. Take no prisoners. I say again, take no prisoners."

"Roger, Warfighter. No prisoners. Bundy out."

You heard the man. Spread out. I'll get on the rocks now. Kinlord, see if you have time to pipe that trail there. Skraut, how about you and Sixgun give them a big hug, ok?

Skraut smiles. He just loves to ambush people. "I hope they have some snipers. I haven't wasted any snipers for awhile now." Sixgun just rolls his eyes.

By the way, Sixgun, did I tell you those are nice pants you have there?

Bundy reaches into his pack and finds something that looks like a can of spray paint with a funny nozzle on it. He aims it at a rock and pushes the button. To his surprise, it paints a neat picture of a playing card. An Ace of Spades with a third eye in the center of the spade. Wow! Neat! This must be my new decal I heard about, thinks Bundy. Nice little pic there :)

Bundy scales the rock pile and sets up a shooting position. No time for a spotting scope, he begins to scan the surrounding area at low power. He does a quick scan on the clearing, but pays more attention to the treeline. He sees Skraut and Sixgun set up cover fire for Kinlord, who is busy planting a patch of pipebombs on both sides of the treeline.

"Bundy this is Warfighter. The party is about to begin, over"

Ok, here we go... Bundy puts the last of the peanut butter sando in his mouth and swishes the last of the sterilized milk in his mouth. Man, that stuff tastes bad but it'll get ya over. Bundy detects some movement in the treeline.

Party's on, boys. Watch yourself! Treeline!

Bundy follows the movement in the treeline until it stops. He sees a reflection and knows it is another sniper taking a look. He knows the men are well concealed, but a good sniper can see things that you don't think he would ever notice. He whispers into the throat mike: Watch the other side of the trail. Sniper is on our left. I'll take him out, you guys get ready. I think they'll rush from the other side.

"Aye, I'm ready for the Shaggas. I got both sides of the trail piped", Kinlord whispers.

"Bring 'em on!" I can hear the smile in Skraut's voice. Sixgun says nothing. Nothing more needs to be said at this point.

Bundy zooms in on the treeline. The reflection blinks a couple of times, telling Bundy that the gomer is scanning the area. Better get him quick. He takes one more scan around the area as he prepares to neutralize the threat. He estimates the range and ajusts the elevation. Wind isn't a factor. Up three clicks... No better make it four. *click-click-click-click* Bundy feels, rather than hears the Leupold as he changes the elevation. Man, this is a nice scope, Bundy thinks to himself as he works the oversized target adjustment knobs. He smiles...

He brings the center of the reticle to the target's location. The fine crosshairs are nearly invisible in the shadows, but he can see the dot in the center where they cross. Bundy inhales and then exhales. He inhales one more time, just a little more than normal. He slowly releases about half of the breath and holds there. He blinks one time to get a good focus and sees the target is still centered in the reticle. Bundy slowly squeezes the trigger and feels the takeup in the two-stage trigger. He continues to squeeze and suddenly he feels his rifle kick him in the shoulder as the scope rises off the target. He hears a loud *CRACK* as the 168 grain Sierra MatchKing HPBT streaks toward the target at nearly 3,000 fps. It is over nearly before it starts. The body is motionless except for a slight twitch of its trigger finger, then nothing...

As soon as Bundy takes out the Sniper, a rocket comes screaming toward him from the other treeline. INCOMING! Bundy doesn't have time to move very far before the RPG hits just below him. The explosion showers rocks and dirt everywhere and Bundy takes some shrapnel in his legs.

Kinlord torches the pipebombs on the right side of the treeline and a couple of carcasses sail into the clearing. Just then Skraut and Sixgun provide cover fire and drive the gomers back into the trees. Sixgun runs to my location and checks me out.

"Bundy, you did it again. Look at your ear! This is the last time I want to sew that thing back on. You already lost one ear before. This is your last one."

HUH! WHAT DID YOU SAY?

"Never mind" Sixgun reaches into his pack for a morhphine syrette. Bundy sees it and says "NO WAY. I AM STILL IN THE FIGHT"

"SHHHH!!!!! Shut up, you dummy" Bundy sees the gesture and realizes he is screaming to get Sixgun to hear him. doh...

Just then Skraut sees the sighting laser of another RPG. This things must be like TOW missles. They appear to be guided after they are launched. Too bad they aren't like LAAW rockets. Bundy rolls over and gets into firing position.

Kinlord sets off another volley of pipebombs as Sixgun takes his M16 and starts shooting at the incoming RPG. They are slow enough you can see them, but what does he think he is doing?

The RPG gets closer.

When it is about 30 meters away, Sixgun manages to hit it on its final trajectory. *WHAM!* The RPG explodes, but not before more shrapnel hits both of us. Sure am glad you can detonate those babies inflight before they get to you. They are not easy to hit, but they CAN be taken out.

"Warfighter, this is Kinlord, over!"

"Warfighter, this is Kinlord, over!"

"Go ahead, Kinlord"

"Warfighter this is Kinlord. We are taking fire at the clearing about halfway to their fort. We have two wounded and are going after the shaggas. Request backup on the other side of the forrest, over"

"Roger, Kinlord. Run them through the trees and we'll have a welcoming committee ready for them"

"Roger that. Kinlord out"

Bundy looks at the debris around him and helps Sixgun get up. Six isn't hurt badly, just a little shaken up. Bundy tries to walk, but has trouble and can't go very fast. Must be that locational damage.

The ringing subsides in Bundy's head enough that he can hear someone talking to him...

"Bundy! Bundy, wake up you geezer. Come on, we have to guard the flag room"

Bundy looks around as things come into sharper focus. What is this? He is in the upper resupply and things are back to normal. He is still a little dizzy. He sees that the nice camo BDU's are gone, his web gear is gone, his Fritz helmet is gone and he is wearing the same old beret again.

He looks up to see TheHal shaking him. "Bundy, where do you think you are? You have been mumbling about RPG's, M16's and a bunch of other stuff. Man, are you nuts? This isn't TF2, this is still TF1! That last concussion you got must have really scrambled your brains, what few you have left."

Bundy smiles.
