Crisis|8:38pm
In
case you've all been wondering, I've been having a few
problems around the site as of late. For one, I haven't
had time to update, and, the forums have taken a turn
for the worse. Due to some bug that is prevalent in the
Ultimate Bulletin Board software, entire forum posts
were disappearing and re-appearing at will! While trying
to locate and fix the problem, yours truly managed to
delete several existing member profiles and
memberships...including my own!!! So, needless to
say, the forums currently have no administrator. Until I
can get in touch with Gamespy, I'd consider the boards
unstable. I'm really sorry for all the trouble this has
caused, but sometimes these things happen! As I
currently have no e-mail, and haven't been able to get
in touch with the technical crew at Gamespy, things are
going to be a mess for a bit. I'm just thankful that I
was able to get this update up, so you at least had an
idea that things are chaos...but I'm working to solve
them. Just hang tight folks, and hopefully things will
get back to normal shortly...

Updates|9:00pm
As
promised, I've revised our map scoring system, albeit
slightly, and we're now running on a number-based
system. We'll now be giving a score out of 60, with each
subsection being marked out of 10. It's not out of 100,
but I'm sure this system will make better sense to most
of you. Just keep in mind, I'm still trying to keep our
scoring system simple, so that we can get those maps out
to you faster! I've also posted a new poll, dealing with
a trend I've noticed for some time, and that concerns
me. With all the custom made maps out there, why don't
servers run them? So, I'm beginning a series of polls to
find out how many are running them, when, and why there
aren't more of them. After all, we have a thriving
community of custom map builders out there, and some
amazing work is always coming out. Maybe I can
"help" change the views of those server admins
out there who always run the same old tired set. Let
everyone know your views...
The
Return|6:02pm
Hey
all, I've finally returned. I've been busy with things
in normal-space for the last while, so I haven't had any
time whatsoever to update the site. I'm going to put
some concerted effort in tonight, and hopefully get the
new scoring scheme up and running. Then we can finally
get out those reviews from our last playtest, as well as
update our existing database of maps. Expect to see some
progress soon...promise...

News|8:05pm
Ok,
I've got some time to post a little news, so that's what
I'm going to do. First, sorry for the lack of updates,
as I've mentioned before, I'm working on some things in
my personal life, and time for the site has been
somewhat lacking. This should be going too long, so if
you'll all bear with me, we'll get back on track
shortly. I'm still thinking over our new rating scale,
so that's on hold for now. In some relevant news, the
Old Geezer clan has moved their site once again! Now
that they're on a faster server, you can look forward to
more form them. I've updated the link
to their page on our sidebar as well. I've also been
informed that MoOg has decided to expand the map review
coverage over at Mu-Tilation.
They will now be covering deathmatch maps as well, and
it will be managed by a new member of their team. It
looks to be interesting, so head on over and check them
out! Me? I'll try to get some work done around here
again...

Morning|8:37am
Hey
again all. Just a quick update to let you know that
things will be a bit slow around here for a bit. I've
got some running around to do, to get my personal life
happening, so my time is limited today. I'm also working
on another website project for an export company, as
well as doing my research for a website proposal I'm
giving to a local chamber of commerce, and you thought I
slept! Needless to say, I've been going over our scoring
scale, and I'll update you on how that's progressing
later on. Once the scoring scale has been set-up, I'll
update the site with it, and start converting our map
database to this format and scoring formula. Now, I need
some coffee...

Surprise|4:00pm
Well!
I guess you weren't suspecting this now, where you? I
know everyone is probably wondering if I'll ever finish
with site design, and you know what? so do I! The main
reason behind this revamp was twofold, first, I wanted a
look in keeping with the rest of the new designs that
have befallen the "Planet" main pages in the
network, secondly, I'm going to look into setting up a
new number-based scoring system for our maps. I've
mostly accomplished the first goal, but alas, our maps
once again need to be converted. So, for the time being,
most of our maps will be offline, until they're
converted to the new format. I thank you again for your
patience in this matter, and I promise that everything
will be up and running again in very short order. I
personally feel that this is the best design yet, but
not everyone usually agrees with me. Well, work to do,
I'll update more later on...

New Poll|9:20pm
Based on comments
I've heard in my recently started thread in the forums, on how things at
The Collective have been going, I've decided to put it to a poll. Should
we go to a number-based scoring system with our map reviews? Should we
leave them be? Let's hear your thoughts. I'm also tentatively scheduling
our next playtest for this Friday. I've just got to check with Wedge, but
I think we're good to go. If all is ok, I'll re-post the map list later
tonight, or tomorrow. This will allow you to get the maps, if you didn't
get them the last time I posted. I've also changed the link for the Old
Geezers Walker Wars Server
page, due to a relocation on Coder's part. You'll also notice a link to
the TFC Players Klüb,
the clan that's not a clan, due to their continuing support of The
Collective...

Life Goes On|10:15am
I just wanted to
thank everyone who sent in their well-wishes to me, I really appreciated
it, and it helps considerably during this time. I'm going to try and
re-schedule our playtest for this week, but I'm really unsure of when I
can be there. I want to get this done as soon as possible, as we're
getting a bit behind, and that won't be good. I'll try and assemble it as
soon as I can. In other news, a new site has been brought to my attention
that I think you all would enjoy a visit to. It's called TFC
Central, and it's a U.K.-based
site dealing with a
lot of fun TFC stuff. They've been added to our networked sites list, so
go and check them out! I'm also asking if you'll pay a visit to our
forums, and submit your feedback to a question I've had on my mine for a
while. It's entitled: "Is
The Collective Meeting It's Mission?". I'd appreciate any
thoughts you may have to add... November

Playtest
Cancelled|6:50pm
I'm sorry, but I'm
going to have to cancel today's playtest. My grandfather, whom I was very
close to, passed away yesterday. I'm very upset about it, and wish to take
some time to reflect on all the fun I had playing games with him when I
was a child. I loved him very much, and I'll always miss him. To that end,
I honor him this day, and please ask that you all take a moment of silence
to remember those loved ones who have passed on, and how much they all
meant in your lives. Through all of us, they will live on forever. I'm not
sure when I will have this playtest yet, but I'll let you all know as soon
as possible. I thank you all for your support, good wishes, and prayers,
as this time is always a hard one for us all. Please, above all, never
forget how important family is, and where you came from. I hope in all
truth, that you all are blessed with loving, close families, like I am, to
share the good and the bad with, and to give you support in your times of
need. Take care, and I thank you again for your support...my
"extended" family...

Duped|10:07pm
Well, I guess the
totempole won't be happening tonight. I tried to get access to the MSG
Null TFC server, and it was passworded! It's running a private 1vs1 match,
and Swingtime wasn't answering my messages. So, I guess it will be some
other time? Who knows...
Quick Update|8:30pm
If any of you are
interested, I'll be over at the MSG Null TFC server tonight for the Totempole
Stack-O-Matic. Feel
free to come on by and see me make a fool out of myself. It's going to
start off at 9:30pm MST, and hour from now. Either go to the Mountain
Server Groups page for further details, or just show up at the
following server:
MSG TFC
Null

Map: Well
Hope to see
some of you there...
Small News|3:28pm
Just to let you
all know that some small updates have been made over the files
section. I've also found out recently that the Mountain
Server Group's TFC servers are back online again. I'm considering
listing them on our servers page, so check there for updated info, or
visit their site, and see for yourself...
Playtest
Announcement|12:50am
Ok, we've got a
playtest time confirmed, and we'll be set to run the new maps on
Sunday. We'll be running about 9 new maps, and with 3 of us reviewing
now, you can be assured that the reviews will be up shortly after the
playtest. All of our old maps are now converted, and the site is
working well, so you can expect to see our review speed pick up! The
playtest map list will be posted on Saturday, so that should give all
of you enough time to prepare. We've got some killer huge maps to run,
so we need all the numbers we can get. More on that later...

Updated|7:41pm
I've finished
converting all of our old map reviews to our new format, so feel free
to pick over them in your spare time. My ISP is down right now, so I'm
writing this comment offline, and will upload it when I get access
again *sigh*. No news on the playtest yet, as I haven't been able to
talk to the rest of the team. So, once again, you'll have to be
patient...
Certified|2:14pm
Good news on the the
exam I had today, I passed! Woooo-Hoooo! I'm now an A+ Certified PC
Technician. Assimilation of everything is now possible, ha! Now all I
have to do is get a job! So, I'm in a good mood, and enjoying every
minute of it. In other news, I'm working with the rest of the team to
plan our next playtest, and I promise that you'll all have time to
prepare for it. I need a good number of players for the next batch of
maps, so, if you can, please come out for it. More on that
later...

Reviews|7:30pm
Ok! We've finally got some new
reviews for you all to dig into. Sorry this has taken so long, but
life isn't always kind when it comes to time management. This also
marks the first reviews from the rest of the team here, so let us know
what you think! Be nice though, we don't pay a whole lot around here.
I'll be working on the schedule of our next playtest, so watch for
news of that soon...
Studying|11:30am
Some new updates
are on the site, just maintenance stuff, so nothing earth-shattering
right now. I'm studying for an exam tomorrow, so things will be slow
around here today. The reviews are almost done. In the meantime, wish
me luck...

Absent|10:30pm
I haven't died,
in case you're all wondering. I've just been busy in my personal life
as of late, and haven't had a whole lot of time to do much updating on
the site. I've gotten to whole cross-browser thing fixed, but that's
been the extent of it. We do have those new reviews almost ready for
you, so keep an eye out for them soon. I should get back to work,
soooo...
Compliant|2:04am
Well, after quite a few hours of work, the site is
finally working properly within Netscape. I sure wish all browsers would just read html
code one way! We're working on getting the latest reviews completed from our last
playtest, and they're looking to be done shortly. In the meantime...I need some rest. I'll
post more later...
