The
Radium Files:
You
may remember this now mythical figure from the Half-Life/TFC
annals of history. Now, in a Delta Bravo exclusive, we've
got some insights, comments, and a bit of reflection from
the man himself. |
 |

Delta Bravo: "I'd
like to extend a warm welcome to our guest, that mad map reviewing
machine, Radium."
Delta Bravo: "Just
to bring the folks out there back up to speed, what happened in your
personal life that caused you to give up the map review scene?"
Radium: "I
left map reviewing, and the rest of my life behind, in order to move
out to California, and work for the GameSpy
Network full-time."
Delta Bravo: "Now that you've been working on the "inside" of
GameSpy Industries, what
are your feelings on this gaming Mecca?"
Radium: "GameSpy's great! We've got a lot of really talented people here with
tremendous momentum. You can expect big things from us in the future."
Delta Bravo: "What all do you handle for
GameSpy?"
Radium: "I head up our utilities division, which includes
FilePlanet and
GameSpyder."
Delta Bravo: "Do you ever plan on going back to doing any reviews? If not for
Half-Life, any other
game caught your eye?"
Radium: "I had a great time reviewing maps while I had the chance, and I'd love to do
more of it. Unfortunately, it's hard to realistically see myself ever
having that kind of free time again, especially since I'm out of school now.
If I could review again, I'd like to keep doing Half-Life,
TFC, and take on
some UT maps. I seem to like making things hard on myself. :)"
Delta Bravo: "What games are you playing these days, and are any of them worthwhile
mentioning?
Radium: "I don't play many games regularly lately, but I've tried out quite a few.
Unreal Tournament is fantastic. I'm really glad
Epic was able to pull this
one off - they deserve it! I've also tried Asheron's
Call, which I liked
better than Everquest since it seems to provide much more entertainment
versus time invested. Q3A is nice as well. The engine's beautiful and I
can't wait to see what mappers come up with for it."
Delta Bravo: "What are your thoughts on the new
Opposing Force expansion pack?"
Radium: "I loved it. The weapons were really well done and, for an expansion pack,
it contained enough new material to hold my interest. The gameplay was
really solid. I think Opposing Force DM could use some better maps, though."
Delta Bravo: "Any ideas that you'd like to see in
Team Fortress
2?"
Radium: "I'm hoping for some really varied gameplay. I love CTF as much as the next
guy, but I always like the novelty maps that have come along such as
border,
civsaw, and
hunted. The way I see it, concepts like those could just be the
tip of the iceberg."
Delta Bravo: "On a more personal note, how has the gaming community treated you since
you put the map sites on hold?"
Radium: "Surprisingly well. Naturally I get a lot of angry people demanding I start
reviewing maps again, but more often I get sincere letters thanking me for
the effort and hoping I will return. I still play TFC when I can, and
usually when I join a server at least one person says "are you THE
radium?".
I love that!"
Delta Bravo: "Any words you'd like to say to the gaming and map making community?"
Radium: "Yeah, you guys rock! I really appreciate all the feedback and praise. I
miss developing the radium sites, but I'm sure once everyone sees what's in
store for FilePlanet and
GameSpyder in the future, they'll understand why I
left. I'm always after quality, and the changes ahead will definitely
ascertain that."
Delta Bravo: "Well!
hats off to our wonderful guest, Radium,
and for all of his interesting insights. We at Delta
Bravo, and I'm
sure, most of the gaming community, wish you all the best with your
continuing efforts. We're sure we'll be seeing you at the helm of
this mighty machine quicker than you can say: "We
want new reviews!"...."
