Now believe me - I know that things happen fast out there on the servers; you never have any idea what or who is waiting for you around the next corner. I have listed here a few points which I consider to be most important. Furthermore, I have also included some tips on ettiquite. If you leave this website with only one thing, please let it be this (my personal motto): without honour and sportsmanship, one's skill means two things: jack and shit. Please, play responsibly and with some ettiquite.
- Remember where you put your grens. As I have said over and over again, this is the most important thing when it comes to being a demoman. I have seen so many players run over their own grenades and kill themselves. Don't let it happen to you - remember where you put those grens!
- Keep Moving. One of the Demoman's greatest assests is his manuverability. So keep moving! A moving target is a hard one to hit!
- Do NOT Spam. Spam is lame, unskillfull and it's just generally bad. If you don't know what spam is, it's when you just lob grenades or mirvs in random places (especially major traffic areas) in the hope that one of your grens will kill someone. It annoys other players, and it can also crash servers. So don't do it.
- Do NOT pipebomb the bridge. This is one of my pet peevs. Just don't pipebomb places such as the bridge in 2fort5. It's really annoying to the other team because it then becomes difficult for them to cross. It can cause the entire enemy team to switch to a defensive posture, ruining the balance between defense and offense. Don't do it.
- Keep yourself hidden on defense. Use those shadows!
- Be clever about traps. Place 'em in a spot where an enemy won't see the trap until it's too late. It is the best form of defense. Also, when you're on offense, think about where you would put a trap if you were a Demoman. This line of thinking may help you survive in the enemy base longer.
- Be smart about walls. Use those walls to ricochet your grens into hard-to-hit places or enemies.
- Fire at angles. If you're trying to hit a target that's far away, fire your shots into the air, so that they'll fly farther. By the same token, if you're fighting a target that is close to you, fire towards the ground or into a wall to give your grenades a shorter flight.
