With the 5th Anniversary of Team Fortress, it seemed appropriate to look back at what is arguably the best design ever to hit a TF mod.
The sixth revision of the 2fort map series for Team Fortress, this incarnation most resembles the TFC version most people know and love. This map took some time to evolve as shown by it's revision history:
- 2fort was released the 21st of the 8th, 1996.
- 2fort2 (unreleased, was the first to have flags and a goal)
- 2fort21 (small flag problem)
- 2fort23 (fixed the small flag problem again)
- 2fort3 (unreleased, moved a few brushes around)
- 2fort4 (added an extra ramp & corridor, moved the spawn points around a bit)
- and ... 2fort5, on the 30th of the 11th, 1997, more that 15 months later.
The most obvious change from TF to TFC came in the lighting of the map. The mood of the map is much more somber with both bases being almost entirely dark. The map's very character is different by offering defenders and attackers alike many black holes to hide in that simply wouldn't work in the bright and cheery TFC version of the map.
Every TF mod to date has some version of this map. It's good to back and look at the original from time to time and remember where it all came from.
