The Sniper's Gun If you have any tactics, tips, demos, configs or screenshots you'd like to share with the Guild please send them to us to include in our pages. Full credit will be given.

Now the Sniper is one of the most popular classes in TF and TFC. Seems like people really love the Sniper Rifle (look above). It usually takes only one shot to frag a person with it. However, the reload time between shots can be lengthy, and the Sniper's got piddly armor as well, so it usually takes one shot from a rocket/Sniper's bullet to kill HIM.

As the Sniper ...
Don't kid yourself. You're not designed to be an offensive unit. It only takes a well placed rocket to kill you, and even if you somehow survive the blast, you're not apt to last long afterwards. So find a nice, dark, cozy place to camp and snipe away. If caught, move! Also remember that any shot you make lights up your surroundings briefly ... but enough for an observant player to spot you.

You also want to invest in a good zoom script and get used to TF's laser sight system. Be sure to aim at a place heavily travelled by the enemy (for example, the bridge connecting the bases in 2fort5). A place to retreat might be nice as well. Also you should beware of other snipers, incoming rockets and looking behind you would be a smart idea.

Remember, you've got weapons other than that awesome Sniper Rifle of yours! The Nailgun is great to whip out if you need to get into close combat with the enemy. Also, use your regular grenades to defend yourself in necessary.

Locational Damage = no more guaranteed "one shot, one kill". Hitting a player's head is double damage, which is usually a kill. The legs are half damage, although the enemy will be slowed somewhat. Everything else is a normal shot. Hold the trigger for 3 seconds and you will usually gib. But don't be too surprised if you don't.

Cicle Strafing is a ideal move if you and the enemy is on open ground. To do this tactic, you must use a mouse (Here's a tip, if you play keyboard only, change to mouse otherwise the only classes you can play effectively is Engineer and Scout) and your keyboard. I put my step-left/right buttons on my arrow keys that I used to use to turn but the Default is the < and > keys. Anyways first you step-left/right and then as you near the side of the enemy, turn slightly with the mouse. While you do the moves, whip out your nail or Auto-rifle and blast away. This tactic is extremely effective at fragging the walking tank known as the HWguy but is also good against other classes.

(Grenades) Use them! Regular hand-grenades are supposedly twice as powerful as normal grenade-launcher ones. Great for parties with the enemy! Bounce them around corners, lob them onto balconies. Use them on sentries, Hwguys, other unsuspecting villains, and watch the fireworks! The flare 'grenade' is a not so useful unless you go on the offensive and launch the "grenade" where the enemy snipers might be (this reminds me of Austin Powers 2: The Spy who Shagged Me where Dr. Evil goes to Minime and says "Stop huumping the 'Laser'(he does that finger quotes thing)." (for an example: the dark main entrances to the enemy fort in 2 Forts, especially the completely pitch black one).
