I've always been torn between TF and school work. I started a quakin with a .93 quake i got off a pcgamer cd. I thought i saved so much money. I was bored at school, so I installed shareware quake into my brand new AMD k6-233 that I had put together. I figured, since this cost me so much money, I can afford to run at 640*480. While my fps lagged and jerked, I remained in denial and played some IPX DM quake with my dorm buddies. Eventually, my frend got me the pak1.pak from one of his vt.edu buddies and blah blah... I sooner or later installed Team Fortress and Gamespy (i used to use web pages with quake servers updated daily/weekly) with help from Wisepanda[CU], one of my high school frends who managed to get into Columbia Univ.
I played a bit on some pubs but got my ass wasted so bad. I was a keyboarding dork and then it hit me. I reduced my resolution to 320*200 and started to kick some serious ass with autozoom and a keyboard. Eventually, I switched to moused quake. After begging Wisepanda over the phone for 2+ hrs, I was allowed to join CU. CU was led by Asnchaos who was then in 3 clans (ST, BH, CU). [CU] was columbia univ tag but soon included pplz from cornell and cmu. We were an ICQ clan that was all ping so bad. The "core" talent was more or less (in order of skill) Asnchaos, Wario, Joker, Zippy. Those were back in the days when I used noaim 0 to snipe the hell out of ppl. Braveheart[ST] hooked me up with my first FOV script. Incredibly simple, it was a hold down to fov, release to return deal. I was still using the direction keys and my fingers were gettin constantly tangled.Grens were something to do between rocket reloads.
My favorite ICQ tip to my teammates was "remember to shoot your rox at the ground." Even in a newby clan I was laffed at for that one. Eventually CU lost its leader due to 1st semester grades and I picked up leadership. After I had to quit cuz of grades, Crass picked up the leadership. CU had some pplz with skill. We had sniperbot of 2aa for a day, glock for a few days, and to no one's surprise, bullseye[djedi] joined CU after leaving CU. In CU i was more or less the sniper. I sniped on southpark and would wait for like 10 min cuz it was the best server. I loved to snipe against MrBungle[ST], [DoS]Conquix, God, and even CuiH-Fenris. Mundania was the best by far tho. Jazz was great too. Flying beavis was good too. I loved the idea of ranking on that server. Eventually I met Anfernee and sniping became unfun.
In DW3, we thought we were gonna kick the shit out of MP.. hahaha. While i managed to snipe MP-annihilator well (it took me a year to figure out that this was AC) , the MP conc jumping scouts kicked the shit out of us. This was when I found out that when i wasn't sniping well, Crass couldn't hold the basement down for his life. In a 14-0 rout, I became depressed. Eventually I met Type O-, and he changed my quake game the most seriously. He took me off the direction keys and onto the asdf setup. He showed me how to write basic toggle fovs. Oh yeah, and a [CU] buddy, adrenalin, a real life friend of mfaces[M] hooked me up with my first gren timer. Blah Blah I had to choose between APr, a fraggin soldier clan, MP, a clan with tons of kaizen at the time, or BH, where my CU buddies had gone. I was forced to go to BH after asnchaos practically called me on the phone.
What probably changed my game most was working out a few times with Lanfear[M]. This guy was my soldier god. I never saw skintech around, so Lanfear tought me to unload my rox like a maniac. He showed me the double rj's. Even what a gren rock combo was. Navy Seal beat the crap out of me in sq1 and i learned alot from that. That was VERY recent. Now I'm easily the worse guy on BH so they make me run the server for them. And this is a clan with luchini on it. One of my roomates, plasticman being the other.
Important TF stuffs: 1st time I heard the use of the word "owned" was when MP-MC sed "AMD-K6 ownz you all." First time I saw the word pwn was when I played for .M and prez mcbarn sed it.
