1) Try to maintain distance when sniping. The further someone is away from you, the more shots you can take and the less you have to adjust your aim.
2) Never leave your flank wide open. Find somewhere that allows you to keep your sights trained on the killzone without worrying about someone coming up from behind. (or at least make sure you're warned about flankers, by using audio cues such as lifts operating behind you, etc.)
3) If you're like me, you avoid getting fragged, even if it means retreating. Leave yourself a low-traffic, easily accessible escape route. I've taken out many people by retreating for a few seconds, taking cover then stepping back out to find my target not paying attention.
4) Keep low and keep your trigger down. Find a good spot, crouch if you can (withotu obstructing your view), and hold down the trigger. Often I'll keep my laser sight on with my gun fully aimed, then zoom in when I spot a target. By doing this, your shots are alot more effective, alot quicker, and you can pop any spies or medics who rush you.
5) Hide your dot. This is kind of obvious. THe best place to do so is in the sky. Noone can see your laser dot if its in the air. Other than that, try to keep it where an approaching target wont see it until you're bearing down on him. Behind them is best. Also, things such as lights seem to work great for covering your dot. Most people can't distinguish the slight red hue to a light fixture until its too late (the tunnels in Rock2 are a prime example).
6) Stay hidden and under cover if possible. If you can keep your butt out of the direct line of fire, chances are good that you'll live long enough to kill someone who manages to spot you. Again, Rock2 offers the best position for this and MANY other tactics I use; the rear-right sniper tower's roof. Duck-jump onto the small stone supports holding up the roof. Then duckjump again onto the roof again. Slip behind the spotlight at the rear of the tower. You can see the main entrance to the courtyard, the key-side doorway, 3/4 of the courtyard (including the hole), and almost all of the balcony (including the shower-room entrance to the balcony, which you should ALWAYS keep an eye on). Many people miss when you're under such heavy cover, so high up.
7) Don't camp too long in one spot. Make a few kills, but once you're spotted make mental note to change location soon. Especially if you're forcefully removed from your sniper position; if they can do it once, they'll do it again. You dont have to move to an ENTIRELY new spot, just move so anyone LOOKING for you won't find you in the exact same spot.
8) ANd if you're true to your profession, you will NOT engage in sniper wars on sniper decks unless enemy snipers are become a nuisance to your team and noone else is aiming for them.
9) If you have a relatively high ping, avoid sniping areas of intense traffic and gunfire. Go solo in places where the enemy won't expect you. This surprise factor will catch them unaware; they usually won't go into avoidance mode and begin strafing and jumping madly. In the time it takes them to react to your presence (if you're detected at all), you can line up and drop your target with a clean shot.
