Specific Strategy: Well

Sniping In The Yard/Sniper War

The battlements in Well are the best and one of the safest spots for a sniper to use during a sniper war. While engaged in a battle, I recommend to stay in a spot where you can hide behind a wall after making a shot. The middle wall is the best so you have two sides to emerge from.

Be sure not to stay too close to the walls because of the bug that allows snipers to see through thin walls.

Always try to keep your dot below the opposing sniper's battlements so they are not warned of your presence and where you are aiming. (As shown in the above pictures)

Be aware of the other places, besides the battlements, of where snipers may hide. Other common places include the roof (next set of pictures), the median, their door/bridge, and in the water, on top of the pipes. Always check these spots quickly, not long enough as to where a sniper can get a shot at you when you aren't looking. Remember, Well is a big map, with many hiding spots.

Snipers on the roof are always a pain to get if you are on the battlements. They can see your feet before you can see them, so be quick about emerging yourself and don't stop strafing. The two best places to get these snipers from are the middle wall and the door. Just be careful, because they might be able to see you through the wall.

Sniping on the roof may be the best spot to get frags. You not only get the best view, but you most likely see other snipers before they see you. When on the roof, always keep in motion by strafing and jumping. This way you are a harder target to hit. If you have other zooms besides the default, try using one zoom less than default, this way you have a bigger field of view.

An okay spot to snipe from is underneath the ladder going up to the roof. Sometimes it's hard for other snipers to get a shot at you through the holes in the ladder, however, you are bait to soldiers who can kill you with just two rockets.

Another good spot to snipe from is the door. You can not only get snipers on the battlements by surprise, but you can get incoming enemy offense as well. The only problem is trying to keep the door open.

Also, the bridge is a good place to get enemy snipers by surprise. Just charge up your dot and walk on the rail until you can get a clear headshot.

If you miss a shot of the enemy coming to the front door, back off a little bit and get them while they are entering the fort. This is a good strategy to use if you have a friendly sentry gun inside the door because you can help protect it by picking off the enemies that try to kill it.

If you are not that much into having a sniper war while playing defense, you can duck in the corners of your yard and pick off or weaken any incoming offense.

You can also do this by staying on your pipe inside the water. Here. you can get enemies above and below the water.

If you want to snipe closer to the enemy base the best place to go is inside the middle well. There are many places to 'hide-and-seek snipe' the opposing snipers to keep them guessing where you will come out from next.

Also, you can snipe from the top of the pipe on their side of the yard. Be sure to be hidden well because if the enemy sniper spots you, you're out of luck. I don't recommend this spot that much since your head is easily seen poking up through the water.

Sniping Defensively

If the enemy is constantly using the attic to get to the flag room, help out your defense by trying to kill the enemy before they make it to the attic. It is a good idea to do this because most offense that uses this path will try to kill you on the way. Make them think twice about wanting to bother you.

If the enemy DM's (death matches) in the main room to your base, snipe from the attic. If you are good at getting over-head shots, I'd recommend this spot. Also, you can get the enemy by surprise when they come up the elevator.

Not many people realize how useful a flag room sniper can be. If you stay on the wall opposite of the flag, it is very easy to snipe enemies coming up the elevators. If you miss that shot, focus on the flag room and try to get them while they get the flag. If they get away again, and jump into the water, go after them and try to get a shot off while they are swimming through the pipes.

Here are more pictures of flag room sniping while looking down from the top. Once again, if you are good at getting over-head shots, go to the edge of the platform and get the enemies running around the bottom on the flag room.

Also, listen behind you for the elevators in the attic. If you hear an elevator, turn around and get the enemy while they come up the second elevator.

Sniping Offensively

Sniping in the enemy fort is a fun way to be labeled a 'pain in the butt.' Get rid of enemy sentries from long distance in the flag room or pick the enemy off in their main room. A good place to stay is in the water so you can hide from their defense's site. Just be alert for bombs and angry engineers coming after you.

Main Hiding Points

Well is a big map and the yards between each base are huge. These pictures show two points of view- sniping from the battlements and from the roof. There are so many different places to snipe from on this map. Know them, learn them, and use them.

It's hard to give a most common spot for snipers to emerge from since they are all used equally depending on the sniper.

1. The roof- I said it once, and I'll say it again, always keep in motion while sniping on the roof. If you stay still, your more then likely dead if there is a sniper on the other team.
2. Under the ladder- Not a very good place, but use it once in a while. It may be hard to hit a sniper in that spot, so be careful.
3-6. The battlements- This may be the most common place to snipe from and the easiest. Be sure to look at all four hiding spots when going against a sniper who uses the battlements, and try not to stay in the middle of them too long otherwise you may be sniper bait.
7. The door and bridge- It's hard to snipe someone when all you see is a fraction of their head. Be aware of these snipers if you are on the battlements, they can be sneaky.
8-13. The middle well- Always a good place to snipe from to keep the enemy guessing. But on the other hand, it's always hard to predict where a sniper is coming from if they use the median often. Always keep an eye in those bottom windows.
14-15. The water- It's easy to see a sniper's head who is hiding on these pipes, always be on the look out for them. It's a place that is rarley checked by snipers, but it is also a place that is very easy to be fragged from.
16. Under your battlements- I have not yet discussed this form of sniper war. Be alert for enemies who will be below you. If you go too close to the battlement's window, they can get good shots off at you.
17-19. Enemy yard- You only need to be concerned of these spots while on the roof. If an enemy cannot get you from the door or battlements, watch out in these spots for a little sniper head poking out and trying to pick you off.
