TF History: [vM]Rumple
As told by [vM]Rumple
Quake started out for me
as a game that anyone and everyone was playing. I picked it up off the
shelf and saw the price of the $9 shareware version. I bought it, went
home installed it, and was quaking within 2 minutes. I found my self liking
the gameplay and how smooth it would run on my old Pentium 90.
School started and i continued
to rave about how good of a Quake player I was. I soon found this to be
untrue. I then got an Internet connection around the beginning of 1995.
I found that there was a new assistance program to allow you to play on
huge servers over the internet. They supported 16 users at the time. I
still remember those days of 450 ping.. and loving every moment of it.
After talking to some friends about Quake and all this new stuff i was
finding on the net. I found out that i was a wimpy newbie at the game...
some of them had played the game since the BETA testing days of the game...
I slowly learned that i was going to need to become a tactical player if
i was going to keep up and have something to boast about with them.
I soon found my self talking
about quake 30% of my class time with friends... We talked about how we
did such and such a maneuver and killed so and so... as if we were Quake
gods.. and how good our ping was the this and that server... at the
time i had no clue that ping mattered in gameplay I found that on a dial-up
I was having trouble competing with lower ping people than some of the
other dial-up users that i had to play with online.
I was hearing about all these
new and improved modifications. Things like "Capture the flag", "Team
Fortress", "Paintball", and many more.. i tried CTF a few times and got
to liking it. I continued to play that for 7 months and then was hearing
how great TF was from; a good friend MasterBeta whom i met at school. He
was telling me about all this stuff that you could do.. conc. jumps.. etc..
etc... I found myself day by day wishing to get away from CTF and go TF..
i finally made the move in the end of 96 - early 97.
I joined tf when tf 2.6 or
so came out.. after i had heard about some of the things that could be
done in this mod for Quake. I played on pubs with my dial-up connection
and got noticed by some small name clans... Ffac *clan fear factory* and
ONE *#clan_one* and some others.. i joined ffac as a medic in BM D and
went though many tough times of losses and wins... and we finally decided
that it would be best if we kinda disbanded and from which we would form
a new clan something to the same effect but under a different assumed name.
This is where i had my first TF clan disbandment. I felt bad leaving all
the people that i got to know so well... some small names some now that
are getting bigger..
After going though multiple
clans *either hating them or liking them and them disbanding* I realized
i needed to become a stronger player as either a Medic or the new chosen
class for me SNIPER. The one shot kill made me lean toward sniper... with
the occasional Medic'ing on a pub or two.
I soon found sniper to be
the best performance class for me.... i had a ok ping *80's to high 90's*
with the occasional max 20% PL so i was around your average sniper... Always
getting accused of using Autoaim *no aim 1" and other cheats.. which i
have yet to see.. but yet i still continue to snipe... i am learning from
some of the greats. Thanks to AM-Chaos_lord for medic enhancements... along
with MU-MasterBeta... as for sniper.. CP-Fubuki.K, MU-Grifter.K,
MP|Shitzu.3e and others... some of the most
respected players in TF
have helped me go from Nothing to becoming a so call "Excellent sniper"...
I would like to thank all
of those who helped me get this far and achieve what i have achieved....
without you it couldn't have been done... Thank You..
