These are hugely powerful, though if not used correctly can be suprisingly ineffective. The first blast is quite powerful, though with a low blast radius. This first explosion scatters four small red bomblets that explode 2 seconds after that. This is the effective bit - each of these bomblets has a large blast radious and carries more
power then a standard hand grenade. In theory, this makes them very effective but in practise it takes a skilled hand to use them effectively. Often, anyone you throw these at gets hit and damaged, but not killed, by the first blast, then runs like hell and is able to avoid the bomblets. I much prefer to use standard hand grenades
except for a couple of circumstances.
Firstly, they are very effective in taking out sentries. No sentry will survive a MIRV and you've got a good chance of taking out any engineer stupid enough to return to their sentry after the initial blast.
Secondly, they are effective at giving you time either to get in or get out. If you've got the enemy flag and have just escaped, a MIRV will likely hold them up enough for you to have time to get away. You can also use them to push the enemy into certain parts of enclosed spaces, giving you a much
better chance of taking them out with normal weapons. |
