Unreal Fortress | Frequently Asked Questions

How do i change class?
Check the section on Keybinding.

How do I get other guns?
The guns differ per class, so switch class if you want to use other guns.

What does a dispenser do?
It gives u all sorts of ammo, whatever u need.

What is the mod menu?
It shows u all the special options your class has.

Where do i get my metal from?
From Ammopacks or Dispensers.

How do i fire the mortar?
You don't. The Demolitionist builds it, but Rangers or Marksmen fire with it.

Where do I cap?
At the cappoint. That's different for each map. Read the map's page to get to know where it is.

Where do i see the frags?
You can't. Unreal Fortress is a teamplay mod. Player names are not sorted in anyway, they even differ for each client.

Why do people shoot/wack me?
To see if you are a Saboteur. When you bleed, they know you are one. If friendly fire is on, hit them back with your knife or spanner so they know you arent a Saboteur. They tend to undisguise when they shoot a gun, so firing a gun is the only proof they need.

How do I fly around like some classes?
They arent flying, they are 'concing'. Read the guide found here.

How do I zoom?
Bind your keys, see the Keybinding section.

My keyconfig screen is empty!
Copy all classname.ini files to your UT root directory. Look at the class page, and see what classes there are.

Which version of UnF do I need?
UnF Beta 2 Gold is the latest release. Download it at our files section.

How do I install it?
Thats very simple, the installer is a executable. Download it here.

How do I start a game?
There are three types of game you can start. A Practice Session, a LAN Game or you can join an Internet Game.

To start a practice session of Unreal Fortress just select Start Practice Session from the Game menu. You will be given an option box. From this box leave the game as Unreal Torunament, but change the Game Type to Unreal Fortress. You can then select one of the UnF maps from the map menu. Also check your settings in the BOT tab, set it to be whatever you want. You can also change any of the other options but when your done press Start. This will launch the game and after the map has loaded you will be able to play the game! Just select your team and class, it is usual to have quite a few pauses around this stage for various aspects to be loaded.

To start a LAN game, select Start New MultiPlayer Game from the Multiplayer Menu. You will see a box much like the practice session one, but with a lot more options. To run a LAN game, you will probably want to check the 'Optimize for LAN play' option. Once you have setup all the options however you want the you have two options. You can either start the game, or run the machine as a Dedicated Server. To start the game, just click the start button and it will run the game with you as the server. This lets you play the game from the computer running the server. However for better server performace it is best not to play from the server computer, it is best to run it in Dedicated mode, so the computer does nothing else but act as the server. To do this, just click the Dedicated button and it will start your server, which you can join from another machine.

To Join an internet game, just select Find Internet Games from the Multiplayer menu. The first screen you will see is the news screen. This screen just gives you any latest news, such as patch releases for Unreal Tournament, not Unreal Fortress. Now you will see tabs for all of the game types along the top of the screen. You will need to select the Unreal Fortress tab, and wait for the list of servers to appear. It should say 'Querying Master Server' at the bottom of the box, but if your internet connection fails, it will give an error message. Once the querying is complete a list of all the servers running UnF will appear. You will need to find a game with people on it, which you can see from the properties of the server that are listed. If there are more than one server with some people in it, choose the one with the smallest ping. The ping is a number which allows you to guage the speed of the conection between you and the server. If the ping is low, it will mean you have a better connection. Once you have identified a server just double click on it and it will attempt to join the game. If you connect to the server ok you will the load the map automatically and then be free to play. If the connection fails, try it again, and then if it still fails, try another server. To update the list of servers just right click and select Refresh All Servers.
