8 fresh descriptions and some new maps
*cough* Update!
apdm3 is a new map by than, warpspasm is a new map by ijed (just in case you didn’t know). Add func_msgboard to your daily bookmarks to stay informed about fresh Q1SP as I am not updating here to regularly (somehow I do miss a good news system indeed, maybe I will install wordpress for the news…).
Q1SP: Digs’ maps, 4 new descriptions
Thanks to Freek I discovered some recent maps from Russia that totally went unseen by our Quake radar the last 12 months: Digs’ digs01-digs03.
digs01 is a good id1 like episode. I really like it. The maps are well connected and sometimes burst with creativity. The brushwork is rather plain but mostly id1-worthy. Gameplay is very good!
digs02 – Virtual World is the most original map I played for a while. Held in a Tron-like style this map plays nicely and has unique visuals (obviously).
digs03 finally is another windtunnel map! I got quite lost somewhen but I know that I am not a very observant player. This map has nice looks again, great connectivity and good gameplay.
The maps are available as RAR at the author’s site, I repacked them as ZIP. I have not yet made entries for Quaddicted.com, shame on me but I want to enjoy the weather a bit. ;)

- dazsp1 – Deaths cold touch by Daz (Nice)
- dazsp2 – Arabian Nights by Daz (Excellent)
- dazsp3 – Ground Zero by Daz (Nice)
I am not sure about the rating on dazsp3 (the screenshot sucks, I know) as I dislike most basemaps.
5 new descriptions and the poll results
5 new descriptions this time:
- madhouse – MadHouse by Shamus Young (Crap)
- magnet – Magnet Interactive Studios by Andy House (Crap)
- mayard – Sir Mayard and the Mountain by David Jewsbury (Average)
- shaft29 – Shaft of the Soulless by Alan Troup (Bad)
- sm57_pulsar_se – The Lair of DOOMestic Animals by PuLSaR (Nice)
Mayard might be something for the lovers of storyline-tryouts. PuLSaR’s map is a must. The others… well… let’s say they are a bit aged.
The Best Quake Singleplayer Release of 2006 poll is over. Congratulations to than for the winning DM3RMX: The Occupied Base! (I wish I had some award graphic…) than had a head start but JPL’s Event Horizon came quite near in the end. Trinca’s Escape and ORL’s Orlmap Episode are tied on the third place. Keep in mind that this vote was for the “one single best release”, so don’t judge the other maps by their “bad” ranks. In Ovo would be in my personal top5 for example.

- kinn_bastion – Bastion of the Underworld by Kinn (Excellent)
- kinn_marcher – The Marcher Fortress by Kinn (Excellent)
- simmer1 – Security Base by Qudix (Average)
- simmer2 – SIMMER2 by Qudix (Nice)
I am sure everyone knows Kinn’s masterpieces so I do not have to recommend them further. Go play SIMMER2 though, it’s a goody. simmer1 is something
for die-hard base fans rather.
I should add that the descriptions for Kinn’s maps were done by neg!ke (I think). :)
