"That's right.  We're dropping you off somewhere.  Somewhere dangerous.  We need you to recover a couple of data disks that were taken from their rightful owners by some very powerful...things." What is it about the way that he said "things" that doesn't make you feel all that warm and fuzzy? "We're done talking.  You're setting down.  We'll leave the 'copter here for your return trip.  We're optimists at heart.  Good luck." Excerpted from Neil Manke's readme file.

The arrival of Quake2 brought more than a new game, it also brought with it a series of new names on the single player editing scene. The old established guard of level authors from Quake were eerily silent while the new kids trickled and then exploded on to the net with what turned out to be exciting and high quality user created maps. Many of these "rookies" were seemingly snapped up by software companies after only one or two maps.

Finally, welcome back the creative genius of Neil Manke to the Quake2 map scene. Having created some of the most memorable Quake maps ever produced by an independent level author (Dark Night, , Silhouette of Darkness, Road to Inverurie, Inverurie, Starship 1 & 2, Soldier of Fortune 1) Neil has returned to apply some of that old Quake veteran know how to the new Quake2 engine.

Arriving in this beautiful arctic setting aboard your now familiar chopper, get set to do some hiking. In an unusual yet emersive design decision Soldier of Fortune Mission 2 takes place entirely outdoors! When was the last time you played a level where the outdoor setting was used to do more than simply set the stage for your entrance into the standard base/fortress? Good thing you got your standard mercenary mountain/combat climbin' boots on cause you are gonna be truckin' up and down some pretty steep and winding slopes. And also a good thing you got your standard mercenary thermal wet suit on cause you are gonna be doin' a bit of cold water swimming too!

Replete with breathtaking vistas, crystal clear water, shimmering sun, a mysterious and evil submarine, ambient sounds and a defined mission, Soldier Of Fortune Mission 2 is as refreshing as a cool drink from a sparkling arctic stream. Tired of yet another base quake2 mission? Sign up for duty with Neil Manke aboard Soldier of Fortune Mission 2.

Leave it to the old guard to bring us something original and new!
