Damn, finally!
I'm always happy to help with such projects, i'm also planning release of my tsunami project this summer, it turned out way harder then i anticipated
Count me in for textures.
About the engine DP is the best place to develop, other engines tend to incorporate it's graphical features - by making great content for dp we would only accelerate the process by giving others reason to do so. And yeah i know dp isnt well written engine, but who cares? Its easier to downgrade graphics then up great keep this is mind.

stumbled over this thread.
This is probably not what you are trying to accomplish, but I thought I drop it here anyway.
Last year I started modeling a Quake 1 homage in form of a mega healthpack:
Quake 1 Super Mega Health Homage - 3Devils
All new with textures.
Here is a Unity3D version of it: HealthPack
Are there actually Quake 1 fan projects that _do_ want to change the visuals and make them a bit more modern?
