  • Huge Lag - Ping gone to rat...

I have DX8pro493 and over the last few days I am pinging at 700 +.

I have rebooted the modem several times, Turned off the UAC and ran speed tests and still have huge lag. I have changed nothing in my configuation. Only change is UAC started coming on every time I loaded up quake the last 2 weeks and I think that was due to an update.

Please help me get back to playing speed? Thank you

I don't know what a tracert is? Should I contact my provider?

How do I reset a bad hop? Always ping below 100 now cant play... (Not that some would complain about that as I can't play anyway!!!)

      Thank you for your feedback.

Although I am playing there increasing less of late, I must admit Shmack has occasionally been pretty bad for me too of late, often adding another 30-50% or more on to my ping, and I know others have complained of the same problem so you're not on your own.

As Mindz quite rightly points out tracert is a good place to start as it will show you how many network devices you go through on the journey from your PC to Shmack and you may be able to see where the bulk of the time is lost.

            Kind regards

            Monty

Badaim mentioned it, but in less words and a presumtion Happy already knew about traceroute command, but yeah. It will detail out if its your problem or routing problems or server host problems.

Maybe its possible for Shmack to experience a server migration to another location? I think its currently in St.Louis,MO. I could be wrong though, too lazy to tracert o_O

For those that may be looking for an alternative server, there's also EarthQuake RuneQuake (connect quake.thisserversucks.com:26007 ) but for some reason Shmack still seems to be the favoured pick up "joint" for a game of RuneQuake

Oh, and St.Louis,MO looks about right for the location of Shmack.net
