  • ne_ruins and Fitzquake Mk V

    Has anyone managed to get "The Altar of Storms" (ne_ruins) to run with FitzQuake Mark V? And if so, how?

    I have tried to add paramaters -zone 2048 -heapsize 192000, but I get a crash when trying to enter the second map (after the intro level): "Hunk_alloc: Failed on 160 bytes".
    I also know that the command for increasing edicts amount is different in FQ Mk V (host_maxedicts instead of max_edicts), but that alone doesn't seem to do the trick.

    The other issue I recently had with FQ Mk V are random crashes with "Shrak" (v2.0) (btw, a miracle that site is still online). Hard to tell what causes them, it's just freezes in any level at some point. I suspect the ejected shotgun shells to have something to do with it maybe, as it seems to happen when I am using the shotgun. Is there any custom-made progs.dat fix for it somewhere maybe?

    I hope no one kills me for the double-post - just wanna tell you how I solved at least the ne_ruins issue.

    a) You need to use host_maxedicts "8192". Best to put it into an autoexec.cfg file which you place either into your ID1 or NE_RUINS dir.
    b) I needed very high heapsize amounts to get past the starting map without any crashes. In this case: -heapsize 524288 (allocates 512 MB RAM). Maybe lower values also work, but I didn't wanna take any risks.
    c) There were still crashes (at least for me) whenever one of these succubi tried to resurrect a dead enemy (yellow circle animation). Only workaround was to kill those succubi before any other monster.

    Other than that, I was able to play through the whole map smoothly. Occasionally there were some package overflow messages, but nothing that would throw me back to console or even out of the game.
