  • Audio problems (not music)

So I got a copy of the dos version of quake 1.6 and I installed it on my dos computer but there are no sound effects and whenever I start up the game it says "30 mb of locked data", then it starts. Also whenever I change the controls it doesn't save.
    Thank you whoever can help.

    Hi TDG

It's just a guess but I wonder if the locked data is due to it believing you have the shareware instead of the full registered version.

It might be worth checking the file permissions on your config.cfg file as if it is Read only then you won't be able to save the changes you make in game.

In any event it might be worth patching/upgrading to one of the newer versions a 1.06 is a bit temperamental. Megazoid has a number of Quake patches on his QuakeTerminus site that may improve things for you.

    Hope this helps

Actual DOS computer or DOSBOX (software)?
      Does the music work then?
Is the sound slider to the right?
Does sound work in other games?
Did you read the readme, techinfo and other documentation?

The "locked" message is perfectly fine as is 1.06.

        Mr burns,

Thank you I'll try that when I get home im out of town at the moment.

And Spirit, it is original dos not dos box, the sliders are to the right and the music works in all other games. I still need to look at the Readme I briefly glanced at it but didn't look extensively.
