  • Can't get some Quake Mods

    Hello,

    I tried to get Rygel's Ultra Texture Pack (2,7 GB), but I can't find it.
    I only found that Rygels Texturepack Xolveoptimized, not sure if that the same, cause is only around 1,3 GB big and the screenshot looks not like the original one from Rygel.
    I also try to get the Pretty Water mod. but seems that the link is down.
    Btw, are they some acid and lava mods?

    The Rygel Xolveoptimized is basically the Ultra pack but optimized to allow for better load times and get rid of some waste. I would recommend sticking with the bugfixed version even tho its smaller you would likely not notice any difference and the optimized version significantly increases load times on low end machines. Talisa is usually great with having mods available on her public dropbox so if she has them I will let her chime in on this. I have the original Rygel Ultra and High packs but I'd rather not have to upload them. :/ As far as the Pretty Water Mod I have DP Pretty Water .55 by Seven and another variation by WebAngel using DDS I do not have Smith's variation.

    For the acid and lava stuff I believe some interesting shaders exist for that. Check talisa's very helpful hd compilation forum thread.

      But the question is now, how I can get to run the Rygel Texture Pack, Romi's Rtlights and Pretty Water Mod?
      Is a very long time age, when I played Quake with mods.
      Which commandos I have to use to run this stuff?
      Btw, I have also the Beastary textures, but the Dogs, Enforcer and Knights are still black, they have no textures and don't know why.
      I use Darkplace for Win 7 64Bit.

        If you downloaded Rygel's Texture Pack in a pk3 file just place it in your id1 folder. Darkplaces should load it up correctly automatically. Same goes for the Pretty Water Mod and RTlights. The Beasitary Textures go in id1/progs/. If you want something that is ready to go then you can download Epsilon Quake at Moddb. It is everything you want with Rygel's Textures ready to go. It uses an older version of SMC by Seven here at Quakeone.com. Also check the link I sent you that talisa put together to see all the available stuff in terms of models, etc. Another Hd Pack Mod is Quake HD Pack. But it does not use Rygel's textures and instead uses QRP.

          Hmmm... I put already the pk3 files into the id1 folder, but nothing changes.
          I only get the water effect when I typed into the console "exec water.cfg".
          I remember that I have also to type an commando to get the high textures, unfortunately I can't remember what I have to type into the console.
          The moster textures are not all working. How I explained, monsters like the enforcers, knights, dogs are completly black.
          The grunts, orgres, fiends, scrags and zombies are working good.
          Is a bit strange why not all moster skins will be loading fine.

            What engine are you using to run Quake?

            If you're not running a more modern one, like Darkplaces or FTE, then you may encounter problems.

              I use the last Darkplaces for Win 7 64bit (DarkPlaces engine Windows 64 OpenGL build 20140513)

                My apologies, I missed that you stated that earlier on in the thread.
                Maybe some of the textures have corrupted, if there black it's having trouble loading them.
                Hopefully Talisa will come to your rescue.

                  I have now the Epsilon Quake for the main game and the mission packs and now is nearly all fine.
                  But I notice that there also the Knights and Enforcers are only black, they have no textures.

                    i will help if you need help putting together your own setup, but i am not going to provide help for those so-called 'compilation packs'

                    i have no clue about how the compiler compiled everything and were they fucked up and what might conflict,
                    and thus cannot and will not help with those. nothing personal, i just cant help witn those 'awesome compilation packs'.


                    my suggestion would be to look into my HD content list thread, and start over from scratch putting your own setup together instead of using some 'compilation pack'.

                    those compilation packs like 'quake HD', 'quake epsilon' and 'rygels pack' are all just packs with items from here, which you can all find listed in my replacement list thread.
                    nothing in those packs was made by the people who posted those packs, and was instead made by people over here at quakeone

                    those packs are mostly compiled to only work properly when used exactly as they were made and weird stuff can happen
                    like the bug you mentioned when you try to add any other items to them cuz of conflicts with shaders and such

                      Psy-Kai-Q, your issue sounds like you are using multiple skins for a mdl model which has only one skin. The epsilon mod compilation is old and uses old buggy mods which can bring issues with newer dp builds.
                      You should try other mod compilations if you like those all-in-one solutions. The quake hd mod for example. It uses newer mods which are compatible with new darkplaces builds. The multiple skin feature is better supported in this mod. You should not have any issues with it.
                      Just be sure to use the mod default settings first. Once you tested it, you can start playing around with the cvars and see how ugly it can get.
