  • Can't unpause demo in DarkPlaces

Some demos i start pause themself at some point and i cant unpause them.
Message comes up like: "joe paused the game" and pause image is shown on the center of the screen. Tried commands like 'pausedemo', 'play', 'pause' but nothing.
Did internet search on this but it yields nothing
    please help.

    EDIT:
i should add that it can be solved partially by playing demo with 'timedemo' command. but, as DP's dcumentation mentions, resulting video is with AV offsync. thanks to my video editing skills i can fix this, but im affraid not everytime.

EDIT 2: found a workaround, see post #13 (page 2)

try loading the save in another client, unpausing.saving somewhere else in your progression,, then try unsaving again in DP.

    that might work.

I had this problem with an older demo....they had paused it at the beginning when recording it and it would not ever get past the pause when I ran it in DP. Cant recall exactly what it was but it was something pretty simple. I just tried to replicate it and was able to with a 64 bit DP client but not the 32 bit one.

demos im playing are from SDA-Quake page:
            SDA-Quake
mostly myltiplayer demos are ones that pause at the begining but some singleplayer do this too.
example demo that pauses at begin is 0:25 date 27.08.01 from this page

            @Cobalt:
My quake is also DarkPlaces 64-bit, its linux version though.
            Version: DarkPlaces-Quake build 18:43:06 Apr 8 2010 - release

i didnt see the pause in Qrack.
              It played thru just fine.

i tried it in DarkPlaces x64 and i DO see the PAUSED, but then i just press my pause button and it starts playing the demo again.....

IDK if you're determined to stick with Darkplaces, MonkeyT....but Qrack supports the ability to play a demo back, rewind, fastforward, customizable demo playback speeds both faster and slower. reverse demo playback.... bleh, too much to remember precisely everything.

                QRACK

Monkey I hope you find a consistent method to deal with the demo's that exhibit the pause issue. IMO someone shoulda been slapped for even looking at the Pause/Break button while in/on a multiplayer server... lol.

haha, damned Pause button in multiplayer games oof.

tried 2 other quake ports, as You recommended, and they indeed do not have the pause problem. QuakeSpasm and Quore ive tried,

thanks for Qrack link, unfortunatelly i didnt found Qrack binary build for Linux 64-bit.
but looks like Quore contains some of it's features:
Quore: based on JoeQuake with additional effects from Qrack, ezQuake and engine's limits tweaking from Fitzquake.
what would be basic command-set for dointg video capture in Qrack? maybe they will work in Qore as well, i didnt found official docs for it so far. tried some basic capture commands but no success.

i like DarkPlaces-Quake because of it's video capture feature. it captures video file with already good codec settings and can do this in the background with sound muted. since i learned how to do this on my own, i might be bias toward it
i still got testing to do with other engines. New visuals in Qrack look amazing, im yet to try all them. lately i put few video captures from DP on my YT.

                    https://www.quaddicted.com/engines/requiem

Requiem is similar to Qrack and for Linux and Windows.

It has video capture capabilities, which Spirit was bragging about. There are several people with firsthand experience with this engine @ func_msgboard.

No idea. I haven't used Linux in 5-6 years.

You could ask in this thread, it doesn't require registration and you would certainly get a response.

good news. i found a way how to fix this, a workaround.

i can use LMPC tool to convert demo files to TXT then remove or replace all "setpause 1;" commands with "setpause 0;" then rebuild back to demo .dem file. now DarkPlaces-Quake plays them properly.
