  • Help! GLPRO 3.50 excutable in Linux using Wine!

I am getting an error when I try to start glpro.exe from Ubuntu Linux using Wine0.9

    The error is

    "W_LoadWadFile: couldn't load gfx.wad"

I have replaced all files with lowercase letters and triple checked that everything is where it should be. Is there a GLProQuake Excutable for Linux that works? I heard of one but also heard that the mouse doesn't work for it?

I would really like some help with this as I've been tryn to get this working for about a month now. Thanks!

couldan't load gfx.wad is an error you get when your exe is in the wrong order or missing a file.
    e|------------------------0---------------
    B|---------------0^1----------------1----
    G|---------------2------2------0^2-------
    D|---------------2-------2--2-------------

      I said...
I have replaced all files with lowercase letters and triple checked that everything is where it should be.

      Then you said...
couldan't load gfx.wad is an error you get when your exe is in the wrong order or missing a file.

I'm not tryn to sound like an asshole to you The_Foqer, But I don't think you understood what I am trying to accomplish, I'm not just simply trying to run GLQuake.

Let me stress the fact that I am not using a Microsoft Operating system. I am running Ubuntu Linux and trying to get GLpro.exe to run under Wine version0.9

      Still need help!

Everything about that error is in the Guides section.

Either Quake isn't finding the folder, or since it is Linux and things are case sensitive, make sure pak0.pak and pak1.pak are LOWER CASE (if the file names are upper case, you will need to rename them).

Here is my guess, make sure the start up directory is your quake directory. SOVS had a similar problem recently at Quakeboard.

If the problem persists, I'd recommend starting DarkPlaces (the Windows version) in Wine and then check the path by typing "path" in the console (DarkPlaces will start without any game data).

The GLPro Linux executable in the library does work -- Magnesium made it/uses it -- but I heard that a lot of ppl have issues with it in Linux (scar3crow said something about "too many extensions").

Most of my Linux experience is Telnet/SSH and I've only briefly loaded it on any of my computers so I suck at Linux.

It's just so ugly and disorganised, I couldn't bare using it. You just have to see it for yourself. :S

                Ok I fixed the problem.

I had to update my version of Wine from 0.9 to 0.917 and run the command "wine glpro.exe -noipx"

But now all my ingame textures are white, the menu, rockets, grenades all have texturtes on them when I shoot my weapon, the sky also is textured, but the rest is white with shadows? I AM able to play Quake now and even connect to any server, but this missing texture problem has to go! Anyone know what could cause this?

Oh ya, I ran JoeQuake.exe via wine and everything played fine? textures and all

Same thing with glQrack.exe? Everything worked fine, except I couldn't run glQrack in fullscreen only window mode but it ran fine in window mode.

                any suggestions?

Try adding "-nomtex" to your command line.

AguirRe suggested this once for someone with that issue with GL ProQuake and it worked, so thank him if it works. If it doesn't work, I'm dead out of ideas. Post back if it works or doesn't.

Try adding "-no8bit" in addition to "-nomtex". An oversight on my part, I didn't realize that the -no8bit was part of aguirRe's solution for the other person that had a similar problem.
