  • Connection problem with Qview 5.00 Server Browser

I have recently installed ProQuake and the launcher as well as Qview. When I load up the ProQuake Launcher everything seems fine and I can use the prgram properly. Then I try to play a multiplayer game. That's when I hit a brick wall. Qview loads up fine and I am confronted with a list of servers but when I try to connect to one I get a message saying:

    Can't create Qview.config.

If 'c:\quake' is not the folder for quake, you can chagne the folder in the general options dialog.

Would you like to change the folder now?

The problem is that c:\quake is my quake folder and it doesn't make any difference if I type it in again. I get the same message if just try to run Qview without first going through ProQuake Launcher...

I have number of clients plus the original quake installed and they all play fine in single player.

Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance, P

Neither Qview or the ProQuake Launcher are tied to a specific folder.

It sounds like you have your files on a read-only device like a CD-Rom or have a folder set to read-only.

I'd delete Qview and re-install it.

You can manually connect in ProQuake by clicking "Vanilla Start" and then typing "connect quake.shmack.net" or "connect rage.quakeone.com" in the console.

Thanks for the help. I realised I had hidden a lot of the files in the Quake folder to make it look a little tidier - this was causing me the initial problem. Now I have a new problem! When I choose a server from the browser window ProQuake loads up and then tries to connect to the game. All I get though is:

      "Trying"
      "Still Trying"

      and then eventually:

      "Connection failed"

      This is so frustrating!

There are only a couple of things that can be wrong.

        1. Are you using dialup or DSL? If so, try setting "Connect: Default" to "Connect: Net IP" then try to connect. That activates a special smart setting in the ProQuake Launcher for situations that require the -ip parameter.

        2. Is your firewall permitting glpro.exe or wqpro.exe? Make sure both are permitted to access your firewall.

Try #1 first if you are using dialup or DSL. If that isn't the issue, double check your firewall.

Thanks bloke! It seems my (Norton) firewall was the problem. Your help's appreciated.
