  • White Screen in ProQuake Laucher

    Hi !

When i try to play quake with ProQuake Laucher, my screen (window) appears white.
But if i run right glquake.exe, my screen (window) appears well.
    ProQuake Laucher has any problem??
    Can anybody help me?

    Thanks.

Hmmm ... what I would recommend doing in the ProQuake Launcher is clicking More Options -> Diagnostics and click "Copy to Clipboard" and paste that info here.

You mean that Quake gets a white screen, not the launcher itself, correct?

I was going to guess it might be a video card compatibility issue with ProQuake or not enough RAM available, but according to the above it is clearly not the case (heh, your computer's specs > my computer).

Is it happening with both the single player options (which starts Enhanced GLQuake) and the multiplayer options?

          Add:

In c:\quake\prolaunch folder there is a file called launch.log.

This file shows the command lines you used to start Quake.

Take the most recent command line that would look something like "c:\quake\glpro.exe -width 640 -height 480 -bpp 16 -gamma 0.70 -dinput -nocdaudio -iplog -heapsize 32768 -zone 1024" and then do Start -> Run and paste it in and run it see if you still get the white screen.

If you still get the white screen, then it is likely that the combination of settings you choose doesn't work well with your PC for whatever reason.

You didn't set your gamma to 0, did you?

            Hi Baker!

I watch my log file "launch.log" and i see a lot of lines look something like:

            d:\quake i\glpro.exe -width 1024 -height 768 -bpp 16 -gamma 0,50 -nocdaudio -iplog -heapsize 32768 -zone 1024 -ip 85.241.126.118 +exec qview.cfg

            d:\quake i\glpro.exe -game prolaunch/demplay -width 640 -height 480 -bpp 16 -gamma 0,50 -window -nocdaudio -heapsize 32768 -zone 1024 +exec playdem.cfg

i dont see any line with "-gamma 0".

If i try, Start -> Run c:\quake\glpro.exe -width 640 -height 480 -bpp 16 -gamma 0.70 -dinput -nocdaudio -iplog -heapsize 32768 -zone 1024 , the screen gets well.

and also if i try only, Start -> Run c:\quake\glpro.exe without any other command, the screen also gets well.

I think its any conflict with the prolaunch.exe. When i run proquake.exe and then click on the button "View in Window" to see a preview, the window also gets white.

            Thanks Baker.

Actually, this identifies the problem. I will have to make a change to the ProQuake Launcher.

The comma in the -gamma parameter is what is messing it up and it was an oversight on my part. It doesn't affect English speaking countries but ProQuake isn't going to recognize a comma as a decimal point, so that probably gets interpreted by ProQuake/Enhanced GL as gamma =0.

My fault. I'll address it in the next release.

For now, you could work around it by going to the Control Panel and setting Regional Settings to English (UK), which would cause that parameter to get formatted with a period as the decimal point instead of a comma.

Mystery solved, sorry I didn't ancipate this problem.

I am glad the issue is solved for you. I will try to release an update to correct this issue for countries that use a non-English numeric convention -- a major oversight on my part. I was aware of the potential for a problem and sought to avoid it, but never followed thru with testing.

Unfortunately time has not been my friend lately, I thank you for bringing this issue to my attention so I can get that in the queue.
