  • Help getting started with Qrack

Hello, fellow oldskool Q1ers :-) It's nice to know that Q1 (amazingly) isn't dead yet. Sweet.

So anyway I found this site, and it seems like Qrack is what I should be using. Ok, no prob- I know my way around a cfg. Unfortunately, I have one pretty massive problem. Where is the list of Qrack console commands?! Here I have this modern quake port that's supposed to make things prettier and easier to play with, yet I have no idea how to set the cfg up!

Does anyone have a list? A commented cfg I can borrow? Anything?? I honestly have no idea how to get this all-important info. Trust me, I can figure things out myself with regard to Q1... but throw me a friggin bone here :0

(BTW, Qrack and these other ports should install with a text file with all the console commands, or at least some simple cfgs. It would save noobs like me a lot of trouble without having to go on some forum and ask a bunch of questions.)

I agree. I don't know much about the commands so I always ask someone like Yellow No. 5 or R00k for help

But for starts if you run Qrack for the first time it'll generate a config with all default values. You can see a list of many of the newer commands that R00k added here:

Just read through all the updates/fixes.

I'm sure Yellow or R00k will post later with their configs or list of commands or whatever.

Type cvarlist AND cmdlist in console for all the variables. I've been lazy and havent made a description of all the commands...

also, type cfg_savecvars 1 so that ass you tweak and make changes it will write to config.cfg AND/or use writeconfig filename.cfg (replace filename.cfg with something like autoexec.cfg)

p.s. I really need to release my latest build, has several new features that are already stable...

Thanks for the help guys. Today I was looking around for mac versions of Quake (I have a mac, but I duel-boot into windows.. mostly for games), and I found this site: (http://www.quakeone.com/ctfre/ctfshots.html)

Those shots are pretty much what I'd like Qrack to look like. Right now I'm having a problem where I have to bump up the gamma to make things look out, but then everything looks washed out. I remember a post about darkness problems so I think I'll go back and take a look at that.

Update: just found for example (http://shub-hub.quaddicted.com/files/configs/ets.cfg) and it looks like I have a long way to go to understand the features of these new engines

Actually use -bpp 32 on the commandline ie c:\quake\GLQrack.exe -bpp 32 ...
this forces 32bit color mode and in game console use gl_gamma 0.5 (lower = brighter) and gl_contrast 2 (higher is fuller).
