  • Multiplayer Problem

When i play singleplayer Quake runs smoothly and i never really have any problems at all. Then i go and connect to a server, and 10-20 seconds after i connect to the server, the game completely freezes.

I dont know if my computer is just acting funky or what, but if anyone knows of anything i could do to get rid of this effect I'd appreciate it.

What engine are you using? (GL ProQuake, Win ProQuake, Qrack, Darkplaces, JoeQuake, etc.) Are you using broadband and at least a 1 Ghz machine?

If it does it with every engine (not one particular one) but they work fine in single player, it is probably a virus or spyware attached to your internet connection or (less likely) if you have a notoriously bad anti-virus or firewall program (*cough*Norton*cough*) might be eating all your cpu cycles.

If you do CTRL-ALT-DEL and go to task manager and see something using 99% of CPU after Quake freezes, you might Google the process.
