My sound is very spotty in quake. I'll be playing for about 30 min or so, and then it'll go out and stay out until i restart my computer. i don't think its my computer because all of my other sounds in different applications work. i don't get any errors, the sound just goes out.

any suggestions would be much welcome.

once it goes out, it goes out in all mods. regular quake, joequake, proquake ect.

Damn, that's annoying. Even more annoying is that I don't have any ideas nor have I ever heard of this problem.

Do you have any applications running in the background -- even with volume all the way down -- that could "steal focus" of the sound system.

Usually on Windows -- or so my perception has always been -- only 1 application can use the sound system at a time. Do have an instant messager that might make sounds when something occurs, like an instant messenger or a music player.

/I don't know if any of this is going to be helpful, I may be 100% wrong about all of the above. I have never heard of this problem (and I've heard of a lot of problems) and making a guess.

windows xp pro and its the sound card that came with the asus a78nx delux mother board.

if i restart my computer, i can run winamp and other apps while playing quake, and after a while, the quake sound will still shut off. its like the sound just lasts a certain amount of time and then it goes kaput.

Try not running winamp while playing quake and see what happens..
You can still have music while playing quake though, Quake has a cd player that will play music cd's
