  • Connectivity Issues

Ok, so, me and my friend are trying to play quake together (this isn't kamikaze btw), and we're having some problems. I can connect to servers I see using ASE, but he cannot.

Example he can connect to Quake.shmack.net:26000 but I cannot, and vice versa for the servers I give him.

As far as I can tell they are both the same version of Quake, but we are using different clients (don't think that matters anyways).

Is there anything I need to do with my router, or even Quake settings?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Last time I checked, ASE didn't support Quake -- only Quakeworld. Are you sure you are using a Quake client and not a Quakeworld client? eZQuake and FuhQuake are Quakeworld clients and cannot connect to regular Quake servers, like quake.shmack.net:26000, for instance.

    Quake Clients
    ---------------
    ProQuake
    Qrack
DarkPlaces (can also connect to Quakeworld servers, but does not support all of the features)
    JoeQuake
GLQuake/WinQuake (should not be used, switch to one of the above)

    Quakeworld Clients
    ----------------
    EZQuake
    FuhQuake
FTEQuakeworld (can connect to regular Quake servers, but the experience is bad)
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Thank you very much for your help Baker.

I downloaded the same client my friend had (Qrack) and I can connect to those servers fine.

      Appreciate it : )

Not only did he lock me in his basement, he also had his way with me.

          ...twice.

          Ahem...
In reality, our game was short lived. For my friend went to pursue a game of "Real" quake, while I continued the wild match of Rune Quake. : P

          ps.
I appreciate the concern, Mr. Sniper. ; P
