not sure if anybody has had this problem before...
I decided to reinstall quake after a long time of not playing. I have both darkplaces and qrack, and both seem to spontaneously start having issues with the input after a few days of playing.
Here's what happens:
My input lags considerably when using a combination of movement...
When standing still, the mouse does not lag.
However, it lags when moving one direction with wasd and moving the mouse, in this scenario the mouse would act jerky, being completely random in doing so...
Example: I could hold w, and do a complete (what would be) 180deg quick turn with my mouse and my view would not turn.
The mouse view also lags when holding down TAB and moving the mouse.
Keyboard input also appears to lag too, creating an ice-skating effect as if the sv_friction was low (but the server is set to default sv_friction).
Example: I tap w once, it does nothing; I tap it again, and I ice-skate several feet forward. This happens for strafing as well.
These occur with darkplaces with and without -dinput; however, glqrack has even more problems:
In addition to this "input lag" glqrack has some network issues.
When I connect to a server and start moving around (with the lagged input), the lag icon would appear flickering and eventually go completely solid, thus the network completely freezes. Sometimes the icon just goes solid upon connection.
NOTE: When I host a listening server or play singleplayer, I encounter NONE of the above issues. Also, the server I am testing this on is on a 3mbit down / 512kbit up dsl connection with specs that are more than enough, and also occurs on a server I set up on the laptop in the same LAN.
-----------------
The first time this happened seemed to be because I had remote desktop connected to the server while I was playing. After shutting that down, and alt-tabbing back into the game, it seemed to run smooth again... However, now it does it with just about every non-essential process shut down. My suspicion is that possibly the on-board LAN is failing. Anyone have any ideas to try or had experienced this before?
SPECS:
Athlon 64 3400+
2GB DDR400 XMS Corsair RAM (dual channel)
ATI x800 XL 256MB (AGP 8x)
PS/2 keyboard
Logitech MX518 Wired USB mouse
10/100/1000 Marvell Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (On-board)
