Trying To get Quake 1 to install

Yea my friend told me about this game and i wanted to install but seems kinda hard lol. can anyone help?

What is your base to install? CD? Steam?

well he told me to get this joequake? looks better or sumthing but yea i got QUAKE 1 downloaded

Do you have the files pak0.pak and pak1.pak on your harddisk?
If so, then they are probably in some /id1 directory inside a (for example) /quake directory.
Like /quake/id1/pak0.pak

If so, just put the joequake .exe into the /quake directory and launch it.
