  • eVGA 7800 CO 430/1300 Slow FPS quake/Malice

    Hey guys I just got a 7800GS CO to replace this aged 6800 and my fps is slower than the 6800?! I'm running the Xtreme G drivers 169.x the same ones with the 6800 and I would get around 130-2xx'[email protected] now I can barely get over 70FPS with same settings w/ the 7800? It's even worse when I run malice addon from Qrak (both) I get in the 30's!

    Yet when I run ATI tool:

    6800= ~215 avg
    7800- ~ 420 avg!!!

    Why is Qrack/Fuh so slow?

    You mean you just plugged in this card without uninstalling/reinstalling drivers?

      It could be that your new card/drivers default to a higher quality (but slower) setting, check FSAA and similar options in display properties.

        No I reinstalled them and used driver cleaner Pro: When I went from the standard 169.x nvid drivers to Xtreme 169's the fps shot up from ~60-70 to 190-2xx's using the 6800. This 7800 should be the same or a lot more. Least ATI too reflects the increase: 220s Vs 4xx's... I'll try and reinstall, but something seems very wrong... I don't think it's the card though (7800GS CO)...

          Hm, check to see if vsync is enabled in your drivers.

            OKay, just reinstalled Xtreme G 169.x, checked out quake 1 with Qrack and with classic settings I get around 200fps... with high quality enabled in Qrack, it drops to around 60fps (AF 4-8x/1280x)

            Malice using same settings classic = ~150s | Hi Qual = ~41fps <--- Is that a little low for a [email protected] | [email protected]/1300?

              ALRIGHT! I've found the mystery setting that's killing my FPS... it's the random rain drops setting in Malice that's eating away at FPS... I get around 15x's when I turn it off. Still for the "last" of the top end AGP cards (minus 1950Pro) 41 fps for a game that's generations old, even with the GL tweaks still seems like something is wrong...?

              glQrack (Q1) does about 22x Fps with settings near maxed. Awesome experience playing both! I love legacy games... next up is RED FACTION!

              Thanks a ton guys for the support! Any more suggestions are highly appreciated! :d

                That CPU is a little slow... it's prob. bottlenecking the video card

                  Yeah but... well yeah since it's GL enhanced I guess it brings it up near modern standards... damn... [email protected] is "slow..." how times change for gaming... No way I'm spending $300 on a vid card to be dated in 6months... Thanks for the info!

                  Got any recommendations for more Q1 conversion mods?

                            yes, foqer can tell you how to overclock your clock-radio. nevermind the reasons why you might want to do that.....

                              Wait, so back to my original question: what frame rates should I expect (from my 1st post description)?
