  • Quake freezing up online

I think my Quake install does not like my Netgear wg311t wifi card, or its drivers. It freezes up and having dealt with it for a few weeks now my hunch is its freezing up whenever the connection goes bad and whatever the driver is doing to deal with it just doesn't sit well with my Quake install. Its the latest ProQuake EZ install thing on a win2k setup.

Anyone have any thoughts, or suggestions?

Alright I got some folding to do or FoQ will nag

I don't necessarily know the answer, but I do know this:

If you aren't using whatever super-ancient video card you were using a year or 2 ago (that actually requires opengl32.dll in the Quake folder), you can stop using the ProQuake Launcher and use ProQuake 3.92 instead.

ProQuake 3.92 (download) does everything important that the ProQuake Launcher does:

    1. Name maker (Options-> Multiplayer -> Name Maker)
    2. Video Mode changing (Options -> Video Mode)
    3. Plays demo automatically by clicking on them
    4. In-game brightness adjustment
    5. Everything else

The whole purpose of me working on ProQuake was to make everything that the ProQuake Launcher does native to the engine itself.

/Sorry to hear you are having connection problems, those suck.

Now you know why everyone says "wireless sucks"... heh
Try getting a better signal. Get all the parts closer togeather, try to set it up so the signal goes through the least amount of walls/celings as possible. Or just set up a wired connection.
