  • Full Screen Dib Mode??

As most of you know, im not the most computer literate person....I downloaded the qrack and glpro390 and neither one of them will open up. It says "couldnt set fullscreen DIB mode". Anyone know how to fix this or what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    You aren't doing anything wrong.

What command line were you using and what video card?

According to what I know this is related to implementing video mode changing in-game, at least the method used by FitzQuake (which is used in Qrack and glpro390.exe).

I despise errors like this so if you can provide the above information that would be very helpful. My understanding is that this sometimes happens with ATI cards. I'd like nothing more than to eliminate this potential issue, or at a minimum allow a workaround.

In the meantime, I imagine you can use the following with no issues because video mode changing wasn't implemented yet.

    Download: Unofficial ProQuake 3.85 - 0.5 MB

Please let me know, my goal is for things to work 100% of the time on any computer with any setup (impossible, but I want to be as close as possible).

If glpro385 works for you, please do pq_maxfps 1 and tell me what the maximum number displays (without turning off vsync) because I have a feeling this related to refresh rate.

Quazy provided me some extra information that may solve this "couldnt set fullscreen DIB mode" problem in both glpro390.exe and Qrack (presumably FitzQuake would have this problem as well).

      glpro390.exe - "Couldn't set fullscreen DIB mode"
      glqrack.exe - "Couldn't set fullscreen DIB mode"
      glpro380.exe - Runs fine! (Pre-video mode change in-game).

Quazy's computer is a laptop with apparently a display 115 hz refresh rate (probably unchangeable).

I know Polarite told me that in glpro390.exe he cannot set a refresh rate greater than 85 in video options even though his monitor supports 200 hz.

Perhaps, something about the video mode changing code isn't recognizing all the available refresh rates? And in the case of, say, a laptop that doesn't support traditional refresh rates of 60/72/75 or whatever the prevalent default ones are, it has a problem?

Hmm, interesting cause Qrack should fallback to default of 60hz if one cant or hasnt been set... for Qrack force your settings with "-current" on the commandline

then if it loads up u can use the internal options to change to any resolution you prefer.. hope this helps...

What I think is going on is that some displays don't support 60 Mhz.

For example, I think Quazy's laptop display only supports 115 Hz.

If you have glpro350 setup the way you like it, this doesn't offer any advantages (by design).

I have built most of the features (video mode changing, in-game brightness adjustment, easier settings menu, AVI capture) to modernize the engine, in particular for players that either scoff at having to use a command line and/or don't want to read docs to learn the "right" settings.

I've had my glpro350 setup perfect for me since 2002 and except for my screen getting foobar'd if I had to ALT-TAB, I was perfectly satisfied.

However, the success of the ProQuake Launcher shocked me. I would have never guessed it would have been downloaded so many times.

But the ProQuake Launcher is really a workaround and I've been trying to put everything the ProQuake Launcher does into the engine.

I have more to do. I have a short list of 4 or 5 things I need to address/improve and 2 or 3 more features (server browser, map download, etc.).

                  Full Screen Dib Mode

                  Baker,

I had the exact problem after installing vs 3.99 & 3.95 so I installed 3.85 as you suggested and when it loads the white letters shake really bad and I can't change the videomode from 640x400x16 in the options. I also tried changing the Graphics card properties from 75 to 60 still nothing and gets worse set at 85, my screen resolution is 32 bit 1024x768. This is on my work cp its a pent4 xp pro v 2002 2.4 gig, the graphics card is intel extreme graphics 2, I updated the driver with no results...please any advice would be appreciated.
                  Thx
                  CB

First, try the latest version. The "can't do full screen dib mode message" isn't even possible in the latest version (download).

The latest version is always available at http://www.quakeone.com/proquake

If have an intel display adapter, those aren't the greatest but here is what you can try (after you get the latest version).

                    1. Use the latest version.

                    2. You can manually set the video mode in the command line and that looks like what you are doing to need to do: c:\quake\glpro399.exe -width 640 -height 400 -bpp 16

                    3. The intel integrated media adapters arenot so good for OpenGL, in fact this computer could only run D3DQuake before I got a video card for it. That is why I made d3dpro399.exe, it should work in your situation if the above ideas do not work. d3dpro is similar to glpro in appearance, but a little quirky (d3dquake was always quirky).

That did the trick and it does look just GLQ! time to set my configs and get fragging! sadly I ping better here at my office on dsl than I do at home on cable
                      :-(

                      Peace out

Cool. Yeah, that's why I made the d3dpro.

I have dual monitors on a Dell with an Intel Integrated Media on one monitor and a GeForce 5500 on the other.

glpro doesn't work on the monitor using the intel integrated media, just the monitor using the GeForce.

d3dpro is quirky, it hates ALT-TAB if you aren't using -window and certain maps it hates. But it's sure better than nothing.
