  • How do you get Quake working on Vista?

I would like to play Quake 1 (the original one) on Vista.

    How would I do it?
    What do I need?

I have used winquake and that works fine but its not free. I can only do 1 of the 4 stages.

I would like to have quake for free tho :\ and have it as close to the original quake. Or even the same.

    Thanks.

By the way, I dont have the quake CD.

Quake is not abondonware, at least not yet. So you are going to have to buy the full version, from Steam or Ebay like Spirit mentioned. It's only a few bucks.

As for Quake working in Vista, each major engine should work. Wqpro, GLpro, Qrack, Darkplaces, bengtquake, fitzquake and so on. I'm on Vista as well, and they all work for me.

        Ok thanks.

I think I will buy Quake 1 again. I got rid of the one I had many years ago.

What would I need to do to make it work when I have the CD?

mmm... I found out all I need is the original .pak files from the CD (pak0.pak and pak1.pak)

Is there a place where I can download them? (No torrents tho)

^^ That's why you need to buy the game... the pak files are on the CD when you buy it!

open the console with the tilde key "`" or "~", underneath the escape button, then type connect quake.shmack.net. for a list of other good servers, use the server browser on this website
