  • Problems with Q1 (XP Pro, 8800GT)

    Relevant hardware/software:

BFG 8800GT OC (latest nforce drivers)
    Windows XP Pro 32-bit

I have two issues trying to get quake to run the latest Proquake (3.99b). I tried a fresh install of quake and the solutions prescribed in other threads.

    A) When using the OpenGL client, I can get quake to run, but all of the textures are white and everything is extremely choppy--even single player. I get all of 3 fps in-game.

    B) When using the direct3d executable, I get the exact opposite-- everything runs extremely fast like im using a counterstike speed-hack. I connected to rage and i get constant icons because of this, though my connection is fine otherwise.

edit: when I turn the FPS down to 60 it slows to the normal speed, but I get only 20-30 fps.

    Any ideas?

According to aguirRe, try adding -no8bit or -nomtex. This has been successful with a lot of people with the white texture problem (nearly 100% successful). Try this with glpro. Btw, I recommend using 3.99h (download).

This "speed problem" you mention, Mindzfield had that a week or 2 a ago.

I am going to upgrade the system clock code tonight or tomorrow morning (to what JoeQuake, Qrack, and DarkPlaces use). After that is available (a few hours for sure), try it and let me know if it resolves "this going too" fast problem (if it does, you'll have resolved it for everyone ).
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Thanks for the quick response. -no8bit worked for the texture problem in GLPro 3.99, but it still only runs at 1 frame/sec .

I'll try the next glpro release for the D3D speed problem.

I'll change the system clock code and get that up here. Should be available in 3-4 hours.

          Done:

          ProQuake 3.99j:

          http://www.quakeone.com/proquake/pro...80124_2147.zip

Please let me know if it fixes the problem. Since I don't have the issue, I have no way of testing it, hehehe

D3D: Appears to be working as it should. Framerate is a little low (tops out at 250), but that could be normal for D3D.

OpenGL: Isn't dirt slow anymore. Not as smooth, but it could be because of something in my config (I was maxed at 60fps).

            Thanks!

Sure. Thanks for letting me know it fixed the problem.

d3dpro isn't quite as fast as glpro (10%-20% lower FPS in my experience). But if glpro won't work, it sure beats having to use wqpro if you want the glpro look.

Not as smooth, but it could be because of something in my config (I was maxed at 60fps).
In glpro, go into Options -> Advanced Settings and turn vsync off (or just type "vid_vsync 0" in the console).

Then you won't be locked to the monitor refresh rate. This is for glpro only, d3dpro can't turn vsync on or off.

The new GL ProQuake can turn on/off vsync itself, you don't have to go into the video card control panel.

60 fps with v_sync on means that you won't have more fps anyway even with vsync off.
