i could always be wrong but I was always under the impression that this was one of the singleplayer maps that came with Quake out of the box.
If you start a single or multiplayer game, go in to console by hitting the tilde key "~" and type changelevel e2m2 does the map load for you? If it does then this suggests your problem lies elsewhere such as a modified version of this standard map running on that server or connectivity issues.
It may help some of the Quake guru's here (of which I am not one) to help you if you could give them a little more information such as what on screen error messages are you getting? Are you having the same problem on all servers? Or one in particular? Help them to help you
Hope this helps

I don't think it's related but I seem to recall that the free version of Quake had some restrictions on what maps you could play. I didn't think that e2m2 was one of these but just to be on the safe side are you running the Full registered version of Quake?
You could always try reinstalling the Pak files from disk and see if that solves it.Mr.Burns

sounds like he is running the shareware version, which only has episode 1 maps.

I believe that there are only a couple of different files that are in the registered version that are not in the shareware version, but I would try reinstalling the full version from your original CD just to be on the safe side.
Kind regards
