  • Cant connect to my server

I was trying to set up a server for me and a couple q1 buddies to connect to last night, but something wasn't working right. My compy is running XP Home and I am running glpro3.7 (and also tried glpro3.5). My comp is behind a netgear router. I have port forwarded ports 26000-26002 for my q1 servers so that peeps can connect, but When my friend tried to connect last night to test it out it didn't work. I knew exactly when he was trying to connect because in the upper left hand corner of my screen i was getting an "unconnected 0" message which would appear and then disappear in 1 or 2 second intervals and stop when he stopped trying to connect. I asked him what message he was getting and he said that quake was saying he was connected, but he was just stuck in the console and the server never actually popped up for him to "play" in. I am at a loss here cause all i know to do is to port forward the right ports to get people to be able to join.
A couple of months ago, i set up a server exactly like this but no port forwarding, because i didn't have a router, and i was connected directly into my cable modem. This setup worked and people could connect no problem. Any body know what i am missing here?? thanks

You need to forward all UDP ports for Quake to properly work with a router.

Quake uses a lot more ports than 26000-26002 for connections.

I'd do 0 thru 65535. That should cover the entire available range.

If that presents you with a problem you might also consider putting the quake server in a DMZ, as long as as you have taken adequate steps to secure the server before hand

          Hope this helps
