  • Auto Connect

I want to automatically connect to a specific server when I start quake. How do I make that happen?

I've tried "-connect ip:port" on the command line, and I've tried the same thing in a cfg file. Is it even possible? I googled it but found nothing.

just add the line to autoexec.cfg in id1 folder or your pak0.pak file if ya store your autoexec.cfg in there, with all your settings add this line to it:

    connect server:port

    and that should do it.

    Cheers.

such as connect speaknow.quakeone.com:26000 or whatever to the file.

Well, that's another issue. I created a cfg file called autojoin.cfg (with the text you sepcified), and used "+exec autojoin.cfg", but quake refuses to exec the config.

Does quake not load custom cfg files? I also tried including the full path to the cfg file in question.

quake auto loads autoexec.cfg file from id1 directory or the pak0.pak if you store your autoexec.cfg there....

So all you'd have to do is add:

exec autocon.cfg or whatever the hell u named your file to the autoexec.cfg file just like at bottom of file press return put it on an empty line in autoexec.cfg and ctrl+s to save it... load quake and it should connect to the server u specified.

It will work, as i tested just using the line connect speaknow.quakeone.com:26000 to autoexec.cfg and it connected to speaknow right after loading quake.

good luck to you, stop trying to over complicate things by trying to use command line - features. hehe

          Simple:

Just add +connect quake.yourserver.com to your command line like so ...

          c:\quake\glpro.exe +connect rage.quakeone.com

          It's easy.

If you wanted it in your config, you could add "connect quake.yourserver.com" to the end of it but I would not recommend that method for countless reasons.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

You're too serious, and whatever... eitherway it does work in autoexec.cfg and frankly it only connects automatically when u first load quake in autoexec.cfg so.... as for like, the diff, i see none.... you see faults i see none.....

            So whatever eh man.

I'm just trying to make it simple for a few less tech-savvy friends so we can do multiplayer on a private server. I haven't played Quake 1 for about 10 years, so I'm trying to "remember" what has to be done.

I thought q1 could load custom cfg files (like "autojoin.cfg"). I'm creating batch files to run the game to make it easy on everyone. I ended up just copying my autojoin.cfg to .\ID1\autoexec.cfg and then starting the game. That keeps everyone from having to remember the server ip:port:password.

BTW, I'm using ProQuake 3.99, mainly because I figured the lack of hi-fallutin' textures would keep the hardware requirements to a minimum.

I find that whenever I've put something in my autoconfig or my config it seems to reset itself all the time- dunno maybe that's just an issue on my end.

Welcome back. So glad to see somebody coming back and trying things out. Don't get too stuck on winquake Make sure you eventually upgrade to QRACK is possible, just graphicwise, 3.99 is also a great client.

I'm just interested in getting something together that will perform well on everyone's machine (without me having to know anything about their machines). I figured going with the original quake textures would be the least taxing on most machines.

Well, my wife just isn't into it that much, but she will play against me and a few friends. Last I played online, I got my ass soundly kicked by people that do this (and have been doing this) for years. It's no fun when you get fragged so quickly and so often. About four years ago, I cut all the tendons on the top of my left wrist, so I don't even have nearly the dexterity/mobility that I used to have.

                      and dont tell me cows dont have teeth >:{

check and see if your autoexec.cfg is readonly, or select id1 and (uncheckmark) read only.

As it's probably resetting itself, back to normal because it's in readonly mode.
