Do you have the latest version of directx installed?

Try this Google search, it should be the top search result. If you don't have Directx install that is.

The one I am referring to in the search looks like this.

Download DirectX 9.0c (full package) - the latest version of Direct X
DirectX 9.0c will help improve multimedia experiences on most PCs. This latest version of ... Double-click on the file once the download has completed. ...

You could also try running in a window, I remember having this problem a while ago where I couldn't see anything in fullscreen winquake.
Add -startwindowed to your command line.

Sounds to me like it could be a page-flipping problem - WinQuake has a lot of command-line options and cvars to control this, so check out your WQ readme for more info, or there's a good list here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kk.clan...arameters.html

You can use these from your Start | Run dialog, e.g. C:\Quake\WinQuake.exe -notriplebuf will disable triple buffering in software, which might be enough on it's own to resolve things.

If that fails, the general recommendation is to set a vid_mode of 0 and see how you get on. This is the simplest, most basic mode, and as such is pretty much guaranteed to work on almost anything. C:\Quake\WinQuake.exe +vid_mode 0

It's also possible that you might have another DirectDraw application running that's taking exclusive access to the video hardware for itself. So two options are to either shut down that application, or if you really must have it running, disable DirectDraw in WinQuake: C:\Quake\WinQuake.exe -noddraw.

If everything else fails, you can try the safe option - this will disable absolutely everything and give you a barebones engine: C:\Quake\WinQuake.exe -safe.

And if that fails, give up - WinQuake just won't run!
