i downloaded and installed "ProQuake Launcher Final - EZ Installer", but whenever i join a server, i can still hear everybody fighting but all i get is a fullscreen view of console. how can i fix this?

I'm not quite sure what all is included in the package you downloaded, but it sounds like you don't have the maps that are being played. I'm not sure where you can download all the maps that come with the registered version of Quake anymore, but you may be able to find them online. Also you will want to download one of the map packs from this site so that you have the most common maps played on servers. -
yeah it depends on what server your trying to play on... but get the cax map pak first.. it has most of the maps
