  • cannot resolve quakeone.com servers error message

Dont know if anyone knows the answer to this one, but I tried to connect to the speaknow.quakeone.com CA server the other day at home and my machine paused for about 10 seconds, and came back with the "cannot resolve server" message. I tried it a couple more times and came back with the same result. I then tried to check the quakeone.com website here to see if the server was down, and found i couldnt connect to the website either. i then tried rage.quakeone.com and a couple more quakeone.com servers, all receiving the same message. I just figured everything having to do with quakeone.com was down, until i went to work and tried the quakeone.com website and the page came up just fine! i loaded quake on my work machine, and connected right to speaknow and rage... anyone have any idea whats wrong with my home compy?
I can connect to all other servers including SHMACK and the suroot servers... i can access EVERYWHERE with my home compy's internet and never had any issues connecting to the quakeone.com servers before..

    Hrmm, that is quite weird.

Trying running a ping and traceroute on quakeone.com and post results... from your home pc. Perhaps your ISP has not refreshed it's DNS which is weird because the server move was done over a week ago.

The IP quakeone.com should ping to is 209.188.88.32 (that is the website, not the various game servers).

Also try refreshing your computer's DNS. Assuming you're on windows

START > RUN > type in cmd and hit enter
In command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns
Close all browsers, restart computer and try again.

        In Windows

Click Start, Click Run and type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press enter.

Then try to connect and it should work as the dns ip for QuakeOne will be forced to refresh.

i did what you both told me and flushed my DNS exactly how you told me and it was successful. I then tried to connect, but still couldnt get on the website or the servers.

I did a traceroute, then ping'd it, and then ping'd google to show that it does find everything else.

Try editing your hosts file. Usually located at C:/WINDOWS/System32/drivers/etc/hosts

Add a line to that file like this:

            209.188.88.32 quakeone.com

Save the file, close all browsers, flush DNS again, reopen browser and try again.

Also, try pinging the domain rockdev.com - does that work for you or not?

Or you could go old school and type:

              connect 69.90.119.245

in the console to connect to speaknow.

Just a thought: if the quakeone.com dns entry has an invalid ip for him somehow, how is he able to browse this site? Heheh
