In single player my new vid card can achieve great fps 1000+ but when I join speaknow (or anywhere online) I cant go above around 500 maxfps. I use proquake 3.99 and Im probably the best quaker alive. I dont really need the extra 500 fps but it would be neat. When I enter a server with pq_maxfps 500 all is good. As soon as I try to go up even to 600 my ping climbs and i eventually time out with some buffer message. Any ideas? Is it network related and I have no choice but to tune down my fps to 500 permanently? Any help would be smiled upon. Thanks
oh yeah, Ive always played proquake 3.50 and my vid card makes this unplayable blue/white/green distortion kinda like old tv trying to pick up the porn channel.
 Any ideas?

reinstalled quake last night and just tried to run glquake plain ole glquake and it did the same stuff. distortion green/blue/red fuzz. Found a proquake launcher program...with it set on software setting it works! but in 320x200 vid mode and its ugly. When i try to customize it thru the launcher I have same issues. Proquake 3.99 works like a champ. Guess I shouldn't complain or be difficult, but I am still going to investigate it and see whats up. I am a tech so its fun and all. I turned on vsync and tried off as well turned the vid card down and all the fireworks as low as can go. I remember it working with my onboard gfx when i first came back 4-5 months ago. Then I started trying different engines out and in the process I upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram/gfx card. I kept using 3.99 but never got used to it. last week decided to go back to 3.50 and i get the distortion problem with this new setup. It has to be a hardware compatible issue eh? E2180 OC'd cpu and 4870 vid card autotuned. My new mobo doesn't have onboard. Any suggestions? Still waiting to hear from those who still use 3.50 about there setup!
