Try getting rid of zonealarm. I remember having fun problems with it myself that somehow inexplicably affected only Quake D:e|------------------------0---------------

Could be a connection problem...
Maybe low hd space? pagefile settings too small? You licked your cat5 cable connector once too many? Your really drunk and u pass out only to hit your head and wake up staring at the monitor? You forgot to clean your mouse? You gfx card REALLY likes that last frame in the buffer and wants to cherish the memory
